64 SECONDS to Learn Up To  25 THINGS about St. Louis Park High School
November 15, 2019

1:   From the Principal

I was reminded of the importance of "D"ependability as I attended our Metro West Conference Principal's Meeting this week.  As a group we met to discuss the operational aspects of our conference activities.  At the end of the meeting we shared ideas and experiences to help support one another.  Depending on each other helps to make all of our schools better.  I appreciate our partnership.

"E"xcellence will be on display through the weekend as our school musical, "Legally Blonde: The Musical" opens.  Our students have been preparing for this performance.  I have no doubt they will represent Park Pride well.  Thanks in advance to our cast, crew, and advisors for all of the work that will go into our weekend shows!

4:  First Impressions Matter

Did you know a hiring manager makes a decision in 19 seconds? Students from College & Career Prep class heard how important first impressions can be, learned how to introduce themselves and how to hold an introductory conversation with someone new thanks to, Mike Scott, from Dale Carnegie Training. These students are now ready to introduce themselves with a punch!
5:  Change to Chill
November is time to think about gratitude.

Did you know only 10% of your happiness depends on your situation? The rest is up to you and your mindset! A key component of happiness is the ability to manage stress through resiliency. An easy way to build your resiliency is by identifying things - large or small - that make you happy throughout the day. As a family, try out the Three Good Things activity to build resiliency and recognize that happiness can be found even in the smallest things.

7:  ACE Mentorship Program
High school students at St. Louis Park High School can benefit from a nationwide program designed to introduce them to the wide range of career opportunities open to young people in architecture, construction, engineering, and related areas of the building design and construction industry.

At weekly meetings, student teams work directly with professionals from leading area firms, who volunteer their time to mentor the teams as they design hypothetical projects, tour local construction sites, and visit architectural, engineering and construction offices.

For students, it's a unique chance to discover and develop new skills, solidify future goals and get on track to exciting, rewarding careers. In addition, many students form positive relationships with industry professionals who can provide important references for obtaining college admissions, scholarships, internships and full-time employment.
