Summer Choir begins! Summer Choir Singers are any singers who wish to sing in the choir on any chosen Summer Sunday morning. They are welcome to come to the Chancel promptly at 10:00 a.m. and rehearse that morning’s anthem. Summer singers wear no robes, sing the Anthem, then join family and/or friends in the congregation for the remainder of the service.  All singers are welcome!

Children's Summer Fellowship Hour

Starting Sunday, June 11, the regular children's ministry Sunday School classes will be on break for the summer season. We invite children of all ages to meet in the youth room on Sunday mornings from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. for a time of playing games, service projects, and a Bible story of the week. Breakfast snacks will be provided. This week's  Fellowship Hour is staffed by our summer seminary intern, Alex Pappas. See you Sunday!

A Note from Matt...

Over the next two weeks, through June 16, the pastoral offices will be a little quiet at UPC. John and Krystal will be on campus at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in course work towards their Doctorates in Ministry, and I will be meeting with a preaching cohort in New York and participating in the Engle Institute of Preaching at Princeton Seminary.

It’s such a gift that we have the opportunity to invest in ourselves, in our skills for ministry, and in our own formation; and, it’s such a gift to be in a congregation that values those investments. Many, many thanks for the gift of time and space that allows my education to continue, and I look forward to bringing its fruits back to share with you.

This quirk of scheduling—a result of commitments we all made months or years ago—means that none of the regular pastoral staff will be in worship on Sunday, June 11. However, another gift of this congregation is that we are overflowing with pastoral talent in our own pews, and I am thrilled that the Reverend Fred Morgan will be preaching and leading worship in our absence, alongside Alex Pappas, our summer intern from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Fred and the Deacons will also manage any routine pastoral care needs during our pastoral absence, for which I offer them a public thanks.

If you have a pastoral care need that arises during our absence, please do not hesitate to contact the church office at 512-476-5321 or email to [email protected].

Thank you, and many blessings as we enter this Pentecost season together!

News from Kathy
Dear UPC Friends,
I have accepted a call to serve as the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in McAllen, and will be moving to the Valley at the end of this month to begin at the church on July 15. The church is a few years younger than UPC, but shares with you a deep appreciation for and commitment to the beauty and power of worship, the joy of service, and the gift of community. I am very excited to join their journey of faith and discipleship.

My time with you at UPC was and remains such a rich blessing in my life. I thank you for the many ways each of you participated in equipping me for this new adventure in ministry. And I thank you for your expressions of support and encouragement during this transition period. To quote that wise woman, Dolly Parton, I will always love you-ou-ou.

I don't yet have a McAllen address, but you can always reach me at [email protected] or 512-466-5662.
Please do keep in touch.

Grace and peace,

There's room for you

at the next Thursday morning coffee, July 15, 10:00 a.m. Once these spots are filled, we will see if there's any interest, then add more in the fall.

To register for July 15, email Stephanie Morris or call 512-415-9797.

'Tis the Season...
...for sugar ants. The staff love to have leftover treats from meetings, and we know that Sundays after worship everyone wants to get to lunch. Please help us enjoy your treats (and not have to throw them out) by doing the following:
  • Place any food left into an air tight container OR put it into the refrigerator. (This includes left over bread--a twist tie won't keep the ants out!)
  • Completely wipe up all spills on the kitchen counter (the ants are especially fond of communion wine;-)
  • Shake out any linens into the trash so that no crumbs are left on the counters

Anything left on the counter that is not sealed will be tossed the very next morning, so go ahead and toss it if there's not time to put it away. Thanks!
