Dear St. Francis of Assisi Parents and Guardians,

Every day at St. Francis School is filled with discovery,  but this past week included special meaningful, fun, and exciting activities!

On Friday, our 8th grade students participated in the Orange County Faley Games held at Cal State Fullerton.  Joining over 3,000 volunteers, the 8th graders spent the day with special needs children. Each 8th grader was paired up with a special needs child to be a buddy to them.  They spent the day playing games such as basketball toss, soccer kicks, tee-ball, volleyball, frisbee, football toss, and 50 yard dash. Their main responsibility was to make sure the children with special needs had fun.  Many of our 8th graders were unsure about what to expect. Most had never spent time with special needs children. When speaking to our 8th graders upon their return, I could tell that the day had a profound impact. Most important, our students learned how blessed they are and how important it is to serve others by sharing our gifts.  The special needs children remind us about finding joy in everything we do and being thankful for our many blessings. Thank you to our 8th grade teachers, Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Lodin, for organizing this powerful service experience for our students.

On Friday and Saturday night, we held our annual Father-Daughter and Mother-Son dances.  The Glynn Center was filled with music, dancing, games, and lots of hanging out with friends and classmates.  In addition to having fun, the dances are very important because they raise money for the Seamus Glynn Tuition Assistance Fund.  The Tuition Assistance Fund provides resources for families who need financial support to provide a Catholic education for their children.  These dances create a lot of smiles, great memories, and help positively impact the lives of children at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School.  Thank you to Amanda Douglas and Annie Grand for planning and executing the event and to the many families who supported the event with their time, talent, and resources.

On Saturday morning, students from St. Francis completed a final marathon mile at the Orange County Fairgrounds for the Kids Run Orange County (KROC). This program was
designed to promote healthy lifestyle, good nutrition and fitness to prevent obesity in youth. Students worked with Coach Nieto, Coach Jimenez and Coach Lambert to run
25.2 miles for 12 weeks here at school on Tuesday mornings before school. Coach Montelli and Coach Watanabe joined the team Saturday to run a mile with the students and cheer them to the finish line. We had 26 students from Kindergarten through sixth grade registered who ran the final mile heats with their coaches from 8am through noon. Every finisher received an official marathon medal and lots of yummy snacks for their recovery. Parents cheered and took photos along the course supporting their students and encouraging them to strive for their personal best. The final mile was run
on the OC marathon course that was run on Sunday. SFA is so proud of our athletes who showed an excellent example of perseverance!

It was a great week at St. Francis of Assisi School!
