Students Enjoy Annual Carnival

Cotton candy, face painting, and a prize booth on a beautiful day
--- what could be better? The Bruce Hockman Carnival was a great success this year, and all our students loved all of the activities, including the new prize booth.
A special shout out to Fairmont Historic Anaheim Activities Director Karen Saturday for putting together a day with a million moving parts with perfection!
Our 8th graders were so wonderful and kind to all of the younger students, it was so nice to see their patience and great effort (yes, parents, 13-year-olds can be patient!).

Fairmont Anaheim Hills Junior High Art Students Take Top Prizes at Muzeo
Nine students in the 3D art class --- Sam N., Riley S., Rajan P., Max F., Sia V., Milan M., Jordan S., Sherry R., and Zoey D. --- created our entry, "World Animal Tiles," which won first place in the junior high category at the Muzeo Trash Artist Challenge last weekend.
The students had to use recycled or trash materials to create a work of art. The statement also addressed that not only can throw-away materials be reused to create something beautiful but also that trash that goes into landfills and our water resources affects animals and all life on our planet in often debilitating ways.
Congratulations to these students for outstanding work!
5th Grade, Junior High, and Cougar Chorus Spring Instrumental Program
Monday, May 21, at 2:00 pm
Our 5th grade and junior high students are so excited to show you how much musical knowledge they've gained this year! Please join us to cheer them on in their efforts.
Music Informance
Monday, May 21, at 2:00 pm The Cougar Chorus will perform at the combined Instrumental and Chorus Informance in the multipurpose room on Monday, May 21, at 2:00 pm. This week marked the penultimate class for Cougar Chorus, and our musicians have been preparing two contrasting pieces.
The first will be a German children's folk song "Marienwurmchen," published in 1858 by composer Johannes Brahms. "Marienwurmchen" translates to Ladybug in English. The rapid scalar passages and arpeggios in the piano accompaniment depict the ladybug flying around the house. More importantly, "Marienwurmchen" has been a wonderful experience for the choristers to learn a song in the style of lieder, which does not give the melodic pitches in the accompaniment. Learning to sing and perform a song without the melody requires great skill and discipline.
Finally, the choristers will sing "Oye," a song by the American composer Jim Papoulis. While presenting workshops in Acapulco, Mexico, Papoulis composed "Oye." According to Papoulis, "Oye" means "listen up" and was initially chosen because the word is easy to sing. However, "Oye" grew to reveal the little voices that Papoulis worked with wanting to be heard --- hence the choice to perform "Oye" to give our Fairmont children the opportunity to be heard in a safe and fun environment. Please join us next Monday in the multipurpose room at 2:00 pm.

Fairmont Parents Business Mixer
Friday, May 25, at 8:30 am in the library "Parenting Skills: Keeping Your Own Emotions, Fears, and Anxieties in Check" Guest presenter: Fairmont Anaheim Hills parent Mrs. Angela Mallakis, LMFT Moms and dads, you're invited to learn about a few good parenting skills. Discover ways to help you take a step back and relax a little bit. There's no manual on how to be a good parent. No license or certification is required or issued to be a parent.
With the day and age in which we live, many parents are very emotional. Watching the news can contribute to making some of us feel rather paranoid. Whether it's verbally or nonverbally, our children definitely pick up on our emotions, fears, and anxieties.
What can you do to better keep your emotions in check? Are your fears realistic? As a parent, what can you do if you're feeling anxious? How can you be a more positive influence and a better parent for your kids?
We hope that you can join us next Friday immediately following Cougar Coffee! Be sure to bring some extra business cards and share what you do with fellow Fairmont Anaheim Hills parents.
