President Maimon Named to Southland Development Authority Founding Board
|
Governors State University President Elaine P. Maimon has been named as a founding board member of the newly launched Southland Development Authority (SDA), a unique vehicle charged with driving economic growth in the Southland.
Governors State is "
an economic engine and a hub for innovation, as well as an important element for what makes the South Suburbs a lively place for businesses to locate,” Dr. Maimon said.

South African Diplomat Visit
|
The South African Consulate General—the highest ranking African diplomat in the Midwest— recently visited campus to continue dialog between the university and Africa’s culturally and historically rich nation at the southernmost tip of the continent.
“South Africa's history is particularly instructive,’’ said Dr. Olu Ijose, COB Division Chair for Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship,
“It demonstrates the bad and good of mankind, the power of the collective - individuals, businesses, governments and institutions — to overthrow evil.”

Marquez, an
Interdisciplinary Leadership
doctoral candidate at Governors State as well as a teacher at Eisenhower High School and national chairperson of the Hispanic Caucus for the NEA, said she is honored to receive the award.
In an interview with the Daily Southtown, Marquez said, “We’re in the profession to do what’s right for children. In the film, some of my students talk about how we’ve embraced the idea of advocacy and support, of being the change we need to see in the world.”

When Tina Washington returned to school, she never dreamed that she could one day receive a degree by using skills and experiences she had honed in her previous positions in health care and as an emergency responder.
But that's exactly what she's doing in the
Interdisciplinary Studies
(IDSS) program at Governors State University (GSU), a major that focuses on solving complex, real-world problems beginning with the ability to work collaboratively and think across multiple disciplines. Washington thinks of her degree as cooking.

is one of the only schools where students do not simply learn the methods of research, but perform the process and analyze the data collected to present.
