Principal's Message
May 18,  2018
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
The last weeks of school are passing quickly. Amazing things are still being accomplished! Students and staff have enjoyed literacy week. From guest readers sharing fables to the Vocabulary Parade, the joy of words and reading has been celebrated. Students learning experiences have been enriched by guest reader, Mary Ruth Rhodenbaugh, and Judy James, from Brazosport Planetarium who brought a hands-on presentation about local wild animals and birds. Field trips to Camp Kappe, the One Room School House, and the San Jacinto Monument were taken. If you walked past the STREAM lab this week, you might have noticed a peculiar odor. Stepping in, you would have seen students who looked like they were getting ready for medical school. Dissecting frogs and earthworms is so much fun!
Each May, we turn our thoughts to celebrating Mother's Day. Students make precious keepsake gifts from handprints and flowers. They write sweet notes expressing love and appreciation. Rightly so!
We do well, also, to honor our Heavenly Mother. Last Friday, we celebrated May Crowning. This beautiful, Catholic tradition honors the Mother of God. The eighth grade students assisted in the program and comprised the Crowning Court. Tessie Thomas had the honor of placing the floral crown on the statue of Blessed Mother. It was a time of prayer and dedication. St. John Paul II said,
"From Mary we learn to surrender to God's Will in all things. From Mary we learn to trust even
when all hope seems gone. From Mary we learn to love Christ her Son and the Son of God!"
Let us be thankful for the great gifts that God has given us in our mothers!
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Counting our Blessings...
