4Leaf: Past, Present & Future

When I first learned about the power of plant-based eating in 2003, I knew immediately that we needed a better way to describe the optimal diet for humans. The "v" words (vegan and vegetarian )  just weren't getting it done for me--for lots of reasons; read on...

So, I created the 4Leaf dietary scale to provide people everywhere with a simple tool, designed to help them maximize the percentage of their calories from whole plants.

Setting the top bar at 80%, we defined the 4Leaf level of eating as: deriving over 80% of your daily calories from whole plants. For more details, check out the links below.

In these links, I explain how it all got started and where we're headed in the future.

1. From an idea in 2009...the History of the 4Leaf concept

2. Overview of the 4Leaf Survey  Simple. Flexible. Powerful.

3. Validating the  4Leaf Survey

What about the future? With over 200,000 uses of our survey since its inception, coupled with numerous endorsements by some highly reputable organizations, we are now comfortable in describing the 4Leaf Survey thusly:

The most popular tool in the world for estimating an individual's healthy eating score in under two minutes

That said, we see a bright future for the 4Leaf Survey and a healthier future for those who leverage its power.
Working now with Switch Healthcare, we are gearing up for our first  ARCH by 4Leaf client engagements with self-insured employers. Stay tuned.

Finally, this just in: The first ever Plant-Based World Conference and Expo in New York. Scheduled for June 7-8 of 2019. Check it out; many details to follow.

Be well, Jim

Looking for Opportunities to Speak.  Since 2016, my research, writing and speaking has been focused on the sustainability of our ecosystem and our future as a species. With a primary emphasis on food choices, I call it the "most important topic in the history of humanity."

After all, what could possibly be more important to humans than the survival of our species?

Latest/future talks: Earlier this year, I spoke at a VegFest in Ft. Myers, Florida, at the  vsh.org in Honolulu and Kahului, Maui, and at the College of the Holy Cross  in Worcester, MA. Upcoming talks are being scheduled at the NYC PlantPure Pod in October and in South Haven, Michigan in November.

Later this year, my co-author, Dr. Kerry Graff, and I may be speaking at a Chinese Nutrition Association event in Nanjing, China. For more info, Visit our speaking page.
