Global Engagement Film Series - Pope Francis: A Man of His Word
The Office of International Affairs collaborates with the Gateway Film Center to host a monthly international film series. Students have the chance to view films from around the world for free!

May's film will be shown on Wednesday, May 23 at 7 p.m. at the Gateway Film Center and will feature the documentary by German filmmaker, Wim Wenders, Pope Francis: A Man of His Word.

Pope Francis: A Man of His Word is intended to be a personal journey with Pope Francis, rather than a biographical documentary about him. The pope's ideas and his message are central to this documentary, which sets out to present his work of reform and his answers to today's global questions. From his deep concern for the poor and wealth inequality, to his involvement in environmental issues and social justice, Pope Francis engages the audience face-to-face and calls for peace.

Students do not need to register for the event, but plan on coming early because t he first 30 students will receive free popcorn and soda!

Admission is FREE for students with a BuckID and offered at regular price to the public.

Avoid Travel Scams
Unfortunately, increasing numbers of international students are targeted by scams. Please review this information to learn how to protect yourself from potential scammers.

Beware of travel "brokers" who promise to book your international flights for lower costs. You can spot these scammers when they require you to pay up front in order to secure tickets.

Avoid this scam by:
  • Doing your research. Search the internet to see if a great deal you find might be a scam.
  • Not feeling pressured to pay. Do not conduct business with a company or person that hurries you to make a payment.
  • Knowing that if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
For more guidance on avoiding scams, please visit the  scam page of the Student Legal Services website. If you believe you are the victim of any type of scam or fraudulent activity, or are concerned about potential scams, please schedule an appointment to speak to an SLS attorney (visit  studentlegal.osu.edu or call 614-247-5853).
English Conversation Program Application for Autumn
The Office of International Affairs' English Conversation Program (ECP) is a fun way to connect with Ohio State students from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Each semester, groups of five will meet th roughout the semester to participate in discussions and fun events and activities on campus and around Columbus.

The English Conversation Program is a wonderful opportunity for international students and American students to expand their world views, improve their intercultural communication skills and make friends from around the globe.

Students who register for ECP, also have the opportunity to  apply to be part of the Language Improvement Track (LIT). LIT is for students who are more interested in developing their English speaking and listening skills, and students who are more interested in teaching language and interpersonal skills.

Registration is now open to new members and will be accepted on a rolling basis. Contact Dan Montour with any questions.
