Fun Fact #24
SPAN staff and family leaders have played key roles in TWO pieces of state legislation that are making a real difference for New Jersey families!

(1) On May 2, 2018, NJ became the 10th state (including D.C.) to mandate PAID SICK LEAVE for all employees. As a member of the NJ Time to Care Coalition, SPAN staff and parent leaders spoke at rallies, press conferences, legislative hearings, and in many other forums to ensure passage of the paid sick leave bill in our state.

(2) In January 2009, New Jersey became one of only three states (six now in 2018) that provides PAID FAMILY LEAVE . SPAN staff and family leaders provided key testimony from their own personal experiences about the need for paid family leave, and SPAN leaders sat in the front row as the legislation was signed into law.

As a result of our active involvement and enthusiasm, SPAN was invited to the signing ceremony for Paid Sick Leave.

SPAN Senior Trainer & FASD Prevention Coordinator Nicole Pratt, seen here with NJ Governor Phil Murphy, was on hand to witness this important legislation being signed into law.
SPAN is proud to take an active role in helping our families become active participants in their local and state governments! Your donations help us to continue to advocate for ALL NJ families as well as those around the country.
