Fairmont Historic Anaheim Debate Finishes Year Strong
On Saturday, May 5, the Fairmont Historic Anaheim debate team competed in the OC Debate League Championship Tournament at Buena Park Junior High. We are very proud of our students who attended.

The teams comprised the following students, as listed below.
  • Ethan I., Sejal C., Courtnie B.
  • Duy D., Sanya G., Roma K.
  • Brianna V., Nathan C., Nathan K.
  • David Z., Annaliese F., Kirin B.
  • Anastasia C., Michael W., Vincent D., Leon H.
The championship tournament had more than 240 students from 20 local public and private schools debating such topics as "the Olympic Games should include eSports."

HAC had several students garner awards during this tournament. In the category of speaker awards (given out to the top 40 speakers), HAC students received two: Courtnie B. (16th) and Sejal C. (39th). The team of Ethan I., Sejal C., and Courtnie B. won all four of its rounds and took home the fourth-place team award.

Additionally, Fairmont Historic Anaheim had six talented students compete in the Middle School Public Debate Program Regional Championships held at Mount San Antonio College. Topics debated ranged from "reptiles should not be kept as pets" to "a nuclear attack on North Korea should be 'off the table.'"

We are so proud of Kirin B., Courtnie B., Sejal C., Annaliese F., Ethan I., and Brianna V. for all of their hard work this year in debate.

Trash Art Results
Fairmont Historic Anaheim art students took on the Muzeo Trash Artist Challenge together to show other students how to create a project using recycled materials that would ordinarily be thrown away.

HAC captured second place in the 6th to 8th grade division with the piece "Sixth-Grade Sustainable Studies Classroom." Congratulations to the following students: Penelope A., Annika J., Shea J., and Caitlyn M.

Their project, along with seven other projects created by Fairmont Historic Anaheim students, will be on display at the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in Anaheim until Monday, May 28. You will receive free admission if you inform the museum that you are from Fairmont and want to see the trash art entries.

Congrats to all of the artists who participated! Mrs. Gormin and all of us at HAC are so proud of all of your creativity and determination!

At each workshop, students will share their love of books and reading with each other through both independent reading and literary-based games and activities. In addition to reading, they will hone their creative writing skills by composing book reviews and recommendations in a variety of fun and interesting ways, including crafting alternate endings to their favorite stories and writing postcards from characters' points of view.

Students will be part of a fun and safe online community in which they can explore new books and share their favorites with friends. Additionally, they will step outside of their books with fun activities that might include exploring a book-tasting menu, going on an Amazing Literacy Race, solving a crime scene mystery, or using their critical-thinking skills to free themselves from an Escape Room. Activities will differ in each session, so students who want to double their fun can enroll in both sessions.
