This Weekend at Hope: NEW SERMON SERIES!
Fire Up! | "The Spirit is Willing... and Misunderstood" | Acts 2:14-21
Hi Hope Ames!

We're home! I've spent the last 10 days in Haiti alongside the most incredible team of college students and volunteers. We worked with Many Hands for Haiti, one of Hope's global mission partners, to serve the people of a city called Pignon. We already miss our Haitian family dearly and hope to see them again someday.

I look forward to sharing many stories with you about our trip, but I think our group needs some time to reflect over the people we met, the things we saw, and the ways we experienced God's Spirit.

Speaking of the Spirit... back in Ames, we're beginning a new sermon series this weekend. It's called "Fire Up" Over the next four weeks, we'll dig into what the Bible teaches us about the Holy Spirit. It's a timely topic for us, as we've seen revival-level surges of the Holy Spirit filling the hearts of people across all of our Hope campuses. Don't miss it!

One more thing that I'd like to tell you all is sad news. I've had the pleasure of getting to know Wayne and Linda Hefley over the past seven months. Wayne was not able to attend Hope Ames because ever since our church launched in August, Wayne was limited to remain within the walls of his home as he resiliently battled declining health. Nonetheless, Wayne and Linda stayed up-to-date with Hope by tuning in online, while Linda attended Hope Ames in person as often as possible. A couple weeks ago, Wayne was moved into the Israel Family Hospice House, where he eventually passed away at the age of 78. A Celebration of Life service for Wayne will be held at Reiman Gardens in Ames on Monday, May 21 at 10:30 am.

Wayne lived a life of service to others. As a young adult, he lived in South Korea, where he taught local farmers how to use modern equipment. Upon returning to the United States, he earned master's and doctorate degrees in horticulture, and he went on to teach students at Iowa State for 20 years.

Wayne honored Jesus with all his heart, and he was madly in love with Linda. Will you please join me in praying for Linda and the rest of Wayne's family? Many of you may know Wayne's brother-in-law/Linda's brother and his wife, Alan and Roberta Johnson (two of our selfless leaders at Hope Ames).

As you pray for the Hefley family, remember Jesus' words: "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying."

Thank you, Jesus, for your promise that is made to all people.

See you Sunday, family!

Peace,
Danny
