Q&A  with Affinity HR's  Claudia St. John: Arrest for Sexual Molestation
Q: We have an hourly worker who was arrested for molesting an under-age young woman. Can we terminate him for this?

A: As offensive as that situation is, many state laws protect individuals from adverse employment actions (such as terminations) for a simple arrest. Many states protect an employee from termination unless the individual is convicted of the crime for which he or she is accused. Best to check with an attorney or an HR professional before making any decisions as to the fate of the individual.
An Exercise in Frustration - Hiring Talent in a Tight Labor Market
From trucking to construction to car care to print distribution, across all sectors in which we work, there is one common trend that our recruiting team has noticed - there's a shortage of skilled and unskilled workers to fill available jobs.  And this shortage significantly impacts our clients, particularly the small businesses with whom we work.

"I've really never seen it like this," said Lisa Ritchie, our Vice President for Recruiting and Talent Selection.  "We have more recruiting work than we have ever had, but this tight labor market is tough.  We're having to prepare our clients for the fact that filling these positions in this market is challenging." Lisa's not kidding. If you're looking to hire someone in 2018, you're in for a bit of a bumpy ride.
How KFC Used Humor to Respond to a PR Crisis-and Won the Day
For business owners, there's nothing worse that running out of the one thing your customers are seeking from you.

An oil change shop running out of oil, a tire shop running out of tires (all of them) or a chicken restaurant running out of chicken. That's exactly what happened recently, when a change in suppliers led to a disruption to more than 600 stores in the UK-causing them to run out of chicken.
Calculate Intermittent FMLA Leave?
Q:  We have an employee who will be starting dialysis and has requested to work from home. She works 40 hours a week. She would come in 2 days a week and work 4 hours before or after the dialysis on the remaining 3 days. She would be working 28 hours a week and using 12 hours a week for FMLA. She doesn't know when they will start or her schedule as of yet. She does know it will be 3 days a week and 3-4 hours a day. I know FMLA is for 12 weeks in a 12 month period, but I am not sure how the intermittent leave would work. How long would she actually have to be out?

A: You are correct that leave under the FMLA can be taken intermittently or on a reduced schedule basis, but ...
