The French Honor Society visited The Palm Valley Academy Middle School this past Wednesday to teach them some French Culture. Members Andrea Rivera, Mirey Centeno and Grace Kim taught them some basic French words and did some fun activities with the students to encourage them to take French in High School. The Middle Schoolers enjoyed the activities so much they asked the French Honor Society to come back again!

For the safety of the students and staff at
Allen D. Nease High School
, St. Johns County School District has a policy where all
visitors
must complete a volunteer
online school access form
which is good for three years. When doing so you are agreeing to a criminal background check and a sexual offender check. You are also agreeing to abide by the policies and procedures of the St. Johns County School Board and its facilities while volunteering. The process can take two – six weeks to process your form.
The following link will direct you to the online form. The form will take approximately 7 minutes to complete.
School Access Form
Without having School Access you will not be able to enter the school for appointments you may have scheduled.
Nease is participating in the Annual Marine Corps Reserve's Toys For Tots Drive. We are competing against the other high schools in St Johns to see who can collect the most toys. Nease has won the last 2 years, so bring in those toys through December 2nd. Collection boxes are in the main office, Media Center, and C-pod.
Semester exams will be here before we realize it. Exams will be administered December 17th through the 20th. Exams may not be taken early, so it is extremely important that students are present. Make-up exams will be administered when students return in January.
The Nease SAC meeting is Thursday, November 21
st at 8:00 am in the Panther Hall Conference room #104. SAC meetings are open to the public, all are welcome to attend.

Linda Smith: Students with the last names Cun-Dod
Daphne Harden: Students with the last names Doh-Ex
Athena Kifah: Students with the last names Ez-Fua

Parents:
Do you work for a company that hires high school graduates? Would you like an opportunity to recruit Nease High School seniors? We are hosting a technical college and career fair on April 1
st
to show students opportunities outside of a traditional 4 year degree. If you are interested in participating in this event, please reach out to Mrs. Smith at
[email protected]
.
Seniors:
It’s officially
financial aid season!
On Tuesday, October 1
st
, the Bright Futures Application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened up for the 2020-2021 school year.
We discussed both of these applications with seniors when we met with seniors individually in September. Students have a handout with the Bright Futures information on it to serve as a guide. We have additional information available in counselor corner in the cafeteria during all 3 lunches.
In order to apply for State Scholarship & Grant Programs (Bright Futures), a student must first
Create a Student Account/Profile
at the following link:
http://www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org/
. Click on State Grants, Scholarships & Applications. Click on
Create a Student Account.
Students will receive an email with their User ID and temporary password. After creating a
Profile
, students will have the option to continue directly to the FFAA.
The application typically takes 10 minutes or less to complete, so students are welcome to come to counselor corner and complete the application with their counselor or do it on their own from home. Students DO NOT need to have met the requirements prior to applying for the scholarship. While we encourage students to meet the requirements for the scholarship as soon as possible, students have until the June SAT/ACT test dates to continue to try and earn the required test scores. As a reminder, students need qualifying GPA, SAT or ACT, and Community Service Hours in order to earn the scholarship. Any student that meets those requirements and applies will earn the scholarship.
In order to apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a student AND a parent must first create an FSA ID. Students and parents can do that online here:
https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid
.
This is something that can be completed in Counselor Corner. Parents who have older students may have already completed this process previously. Once students and parents have their FSA ID, they can complete the FAFSA on-line here:
https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa
.
Please make sure you are checking the e-mail address that you provided to your Naviance account as we will start sending larger senior specific updates through Naviance. Returning students should have received their Naviance registration code last spring in order to set up their accounts. If you need that information again, you can get it from your counselor. Once you have registered, you can continue to access your account here:
https://student.naviance.com/allennease
The majority of students should have submitted their college applications at this time. As we enter notification season, please update your counselor and Naviance as you get news of your acceptances!
Juniors:
As we enter the holiday season, now is a great time to see if you can incorporate college visits into your travel plans. If you could schedule a housing tour along with a financial aid and admissions presentation with a meal on campus, it would go a long way in helping you get a sense of where you might want to be 2 years from now.
Counselors will be visiting Junior English classes this week. We will be working with students to confirm that they are aware of all the classes that they need to graduate. We will also be working with them on developing their college lists of potential schools and careers. Students will be receiving their Naviance codes so that they can log into their Naviance accounts here:
https://student.naviance.com/allennease
and start saving potential colleges and careers to their “Colleges I’m Thinking About” and “Careers I’m Thinking About” sections. Students will also be encouraged to start working on their resumes in Naviance as these will be required for their college letters of recommendation next year.
It is also time for Juniors to start taking the SAT and ACT. Your goal is to have a solid test score by the end of the school year so that you can start submitting college applications in the summer and fall of next year. You can register for the SAT at
www.collegeboard.org
and the ACT at
www.actstudent.org
. Students on free and reduced lunch can see Ms. Harden in guidance for 2 fee waivers for each test.
Sophomores:
We hope that you all took the PSAT this month and it was a positive testing experience for you. As the first nine weeks comes to a close, you should be reviewing your grades and evaluating your study habits. It is important to make sure and keep your grades up so you keep your opportunities open.
Freshman:
All Freshman World History classes went to the computer lab on Tuesday 10/22 or Thursday 10/24. Students created their Naviance accounts (a huge college and career resource), learned about graduation requirements and tutoring opportunities, took a strengths survey, and more. Please have your student share with you the packet they received that includes their 9
th
grade “stay on track” checklist.
Community Service Opportunity:
