JANUARY - MARCH 2018
The first quarter of 2018 has been a blur of excitement for all of us at SHOH. Our Recovery Residence “Hope’s Horizons” is eagerly awaiting word from the county about funding for women transitioning from treatment back into the mainstream. California Consortium of Addiction Program and Professionals (CCAPP) is scheduled to inspect Hope’s Horizons in early April and our registration with them will be renewed. Our treatment facility, SHOH #1, in Desert Hot Springs received our renewal license/certification from Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) that is good until 2020. We are in the process of applying for Incidental Medical Services Certification as the county has recommended that we do so. In addition, we are preparing for our first Drug Medi-Cal Certification (DMC) Audit by DHCS in early April. As you can see, we have all been very busy dotting our I’s and crossing our T’s to ensure that SHOH is providing quality services to our clients.
UPDATE:
Our DHCS audit was completed on April 12, 2018. At the exit interview I was left speechless at how glowing the auditor’s report was from our awesome policies and procedures, the amazing client file documentation and the perfect facility inspection. It was simply a stellar review. So proud of everyone and I am eternally grateful to the County of Riverside, the Department of Health Care Services, the SHOH Board of Directors, our dedicated staff and contractors that work for SHOH. We are blessed beyond measure with people that understand what we do and support us 1,000%. Planning is going very well for our 5th Annual “A Day of Hope in May and it is our “Hope” that we will see all of you there.
Your support is deeply appreciated by our Board of Directors, our Staff and the women we help recover from the ravages of addiction.
In love and service,
Cynthia A. “Oma” Gray, CADC-II, ICADC
Executive Director

Please Join us for a "Day of Hope"
It’s almost here….our fifth annual “A Day of Hope” event will be held on Saturday, May 5 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. We’ll be hosting lunch at a new venue - the Classic Club in Palm Desert - and the afternoon will include a live auction and raffle with a number of “must-have” items. The event’s MC will be Patrick Evans, Chief Meterologist at CBS Local 2 (and master auctioneer), and all proceeds will help disadvantaged women overcome substance use disorders and live sober, productive, and happy lives. Last year, we raised nearly $9,000 and we need your help to surpass that milestone this year! Thanks to your amazing support, the event is

IN LOVING MEMORY
Billie Gray
5-30-06 - 3-26-18
|
Our sweet Billie kitty went to the Rainbow Bridge on 3-26-18. Billie was an awesome therapy cat and was loved by all who met her. She was born at the Banning House on what would have been Bill Page’s 92nd birthday (5-30-06). Billie is proceeded in death by her sister Page. Both of our beautiful girls are together again at the Rainbow Bridge. We truly miss their therapeutic pet powers and their amazing mouse catching abilities. SHOH kitties for eternity.

Thank you for the serene, safe place you have provided for me to grow as woman and believe in myself again. I have gained the tools to love myself enough to eliminate toxic people and toxic environments from my life. Thank you for the sanctuary, the inspiration and the courage to participate in my life again and be the respectful, healthy woman God intended me to be

My reason for coming to House of Hope is and was to develop a sober lifestyle. Thank you for the opportunity to learn this at House of Hope. I drank daily and after 40 years of drinking, my health gave out and I ended up in the hospital with kidney failure. This was a wake call for me and I was given the tools I need for staying sober. My health won’t allow me to drink and I do want to live. Thank you sincerely.

I am a 59 year old Hispanic woman who has been abusing alcohol and drugs since I was 11 years old. I have been in many recovery centers and never was able to stay more than 48 hours. I did not receive the care and concern there that I have received at SHOH. I was embraced, told “welcome home, it is going to be alright and let us love you until you can love yourself” Your greeting was just what I so desperately needed. The first 30 days was so very difficult for me to stay still yet my counselor Miss Leslee and Director Miss Lupe saw something in me that I was not able to see yet. I am leaving this house a new woman, definitely not the one who walked through the doors 90 days ago. I have a beautiful connection with God that I did not have before. The discipline, the structure and most importantly the love was exactly what I needed. I am deeply grateful for finding SHOH and I believe it is only by the Grace of God that I did. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Soroptimist women who help support SHOH, the handpicked staff with incredible commitment, empathy and for the care I received that has renewed my relationship with my children and given me what I need to continue in my new found life in recovery. Thank you so very much for saving my life.

My grandma Charlotte has been involved with SHOH for many years. She told me that miracles happen at this house. I was never sure what to think about that but now I know for myself that miracles do happen here and I am proof of that. This place has taught me to love myself again and made it possible for me to forgive myself for my past mistakes and learn from them rather than continuing to beat myself up. The support and encouragement I received from everyone here showed me proof that there is a better way to live. The fact that all of the staff are alumni of SHOH is so inspirational and gives me so much hope. I get to go home to my son and be a sober mother and that means everything to me. I am so proud to be an alumni and so grateful that I will always have a home and family at SHOH.
