ExecMessageMessage from VP for Marketing, Joshua McKee

Joshua McKee, VP for Marketing
Good morning, SACSA!

On behalf of the 2019 Executive Council, 2019 Annual Conference Committee, and the 2020 Executive Council, we hope you enjoyed your time in Raleigh, North Carolina at the 2019 SACSA Annual Conference with NASPA Region III. Let this also serve as a reminder to mark your calendar for the 2020 SACSA Annual Conference with NASPA Region III when we meet in Norfolk, Virginia November 7-9!

Throughout 2020, you'll hear from different members of the Executive Council as they share information about what's happening in their areas and how you can get further involved. As the Vice President for Marketing, I would like to thank the former VP for Marketing, Dr. Kristin Walker-Donnelly, for her hard work over the last two years. Additionally, I would like to thank and recognize the returning and new members of the marketing team.
  • Marketing & Technology Committee Chair - Jay Lambert has stepped into the role previously held by Jackie Clark to help coordinate marketing and technology for the association. This important role helps the association ensure continuity across all of its platforms.
  • SACSAlert Coordinator - Meghan Woodward has done a fantastic job coordinating all of the information you receive in your monthly association update. Over the next year, we will continue to streamline the SACSAlert and ensure it meets the needs of our members.
  • Social Media Coordinator - Dion Tremain Harry is behind every tweet, Facebook and Instagram post, and LinkedIn update for SACSA and has done a great job of distributing higher education related news articles and blog posts. If you would like to highlight the important work SACSA members are being recognized for, we encourage you to submit a social media request form.
  • Graphic Design Coordinator - Michael Wilkinson has graciously accepted one of SACSA's newest roles. Michael will work with our leadership and membership to develop graphics and content that meet our strong branding visuals and guidelines. If you need a SACSA-related graphic or content created, we encourage you to submit a graphic design request form.
  • Webmaster - Kim Bullington Sibson has served SACSA in many ways and most recently as the Conference Communication Chair where she oversaw the conference section of the website. Kim will continue to flourish in this new role, and we welcome website updates through the website request form.
In the coming months, the Marketing Team will be developing its strategic priorities - building upon our current strengths and working closely with the SACSA Foundation, the College Student Affairs Journal (CSAJ), and the rest of the Executive Council to enhance the SACSA brand, image, and reach across the region.

As the fall semester comes to a close, I hope you take the time to think back on the moments you had to impact both your students and your campus. Have a safe winter break, and a happy new year!

On behalf of the entire SACSA Marketing Team,

Joshua McKee, Ph.D.
Vice President for Marketing

SACSAStoryMy SACSA Story, Dr. Diane Waryold
Membership & Recruitment Committee

Dr. Diane Waryold
Dr. Diane Waryold is a Professor and Program Director in the Student Affairs grad prep program at Appalachian State University, in Boone, North Carolina. She has been a faculty member for 16 years after working in housing, residence life, and student conduct. She first got involved in SACSA in the early 80's, and has served as SACSA's Newsletter Editor, hosted the graduate faculty forum, and helped to coordinate the SACSA placement showcase. Dr Waryold currently serves as a Trustee on the SACSA foundation board, and has presented many times at SACSA conferences throughout the years.

Dr. Waryold is a first-generation student who received her Associate's degree in Applied Science from SUNY-Delhi, her B.S. in Education from SUNY-Cortland, her M.Ed. from the University of Florida in Student Personnel in Higher Education, and her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from Florida State University. While working full-time at SUNY-Cortland as a Hall Director she earned her master's degree. She was also fortunate to attend FSU while Dr. Melvene Draheim Hardee was still teaching, and being a student of Dr. Hardee has greatly impacted her work as a scholar practitioner.

Her favorite SACSA location is one that we have been to many times as an association - Myrtle Beach! But she recalls one year in particular in which SACSA was located at a new hotel on the beach as her favorite location. Dr Waryold notes that SACSA is, "All about the people", remembering fondly all of her colleagues that she has the opportunity to see when she returns to SACSA conferences. She also finds that SACSA has had utility for her work, and a strength of the association it that it is a generalist organization, serving many different functional areas in Student Affairs. Dr. Waryold believes deeply in SACSA's commitment to inclusion and diversity. Simply put, Dr. Waryold describes SACSA as, the "Most welcoming place that I've ever known professionally."
