Window Dressers Update

We are tentatively in gear for a  WindowDresser Community Workshop at St. Brendan's in late August.  A group of St. Brendanites and  other Deer Isle- Stonington WD enthusiasts met yesterday (May 16) and we determined that we have the internal structure in place to host a "workshop" this year. (new terminology this year :-).   Look for fliers out in  the community soon.  We have     a solid group of people who already have experience measuring and some some who are looking forward to learning the process.   Window Dressers has a grant to especially address need for inserts among senior citizens.

For more information, please contact Jo Jacob: [email protected].

       Placid Waters
          -------

                           Have you ever seen evergreens
Stand atop a granite bank, or
                           Salmon clouds hang above horizons,

                           When you first look directly,
Then twice in the mirror of
Still waters at dawn or dusk?

                           A Creator's quiet presence
                           Above and below the surface,
                           Seeks Peace from any reflector,
                           Holding enlightened spirits.

Day of Pentecost:

Today we conclude the seven weeks of celebrating our redemption, shown forth in the resurrection and ascension of Jesus and in his sending the Spirit of God to us. It is the presence of the Spirit in the Church that makes God's action in the dying, rising, and glorification of Jesus of more than historical interest. It is the continued presence of the Holy Spirit that incorporates our lives into the risen life of Christ and makes us part of his Body.

This celebration of the Holy Spirit is, therefore, one of the four times in the year when Holy Baptism is particularly significant in the liturgy. It is in Baptism that we receive the Spirit and are made partakers in the resurrection life.

In the reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we hear the account of the first Pentecost when the Apostles received the Spirit and proclaimed the Gospel in many tongues. The second reading from Romans tells us that the entire universe is to look toward its redemption. That redemption is waiting for us and our redemption is the work of the Spirit of God dwelling in us.

Paul tells the Roman church and us that the Holy Spirit is the one who is working in us when we pray. Moreover, the Spirit of God is leading us with the entire creation into redemption and resurrection.

As an essential part of the liturgy, we will renew our own Baptismal Covenant [and rejoice in the baptism of new members of Christ]. We, in Baptism, are made new members of the company of the apostles and we are sent forth in the power of the Spirit to proclaim the risen Christ to people of every race and tongue and nation.

Lord, we will trust you.

Help us to journey beyond the familiar and  into the unknown.

Give us the faith to leave old ways and break new ground with you.

Christ of the mysteries, we trust you to be stronger than each     storm  within us.

We will trust in the darkness and know that our times are in your hand.

Tune our spirit to the music of heaven, and somehow, make our   obedience count for you.
