We have been gradually getting to know our new kangaroo joey. This is mama Scooter and daddy Rocket's second baby, and we have been enjoying watching him get bigger!

Click through to our Instagram or Facebook page to see video of Scooter "talking" to her joey, and make sure you watch to the end when he sticks his little paw out after jumping in the pouch :)

Customer of the Month
Carolyn Hildebrandt and dog Eddie, who's also a big fan of Hansen's Dairy
The December Customer of the Month is  Carolyn Hildebrandt  of Waterloo.

Carolyn first learned about Hansen's Dairy products when Moo Roo opened in Waterloo, bringing her daughters there for ice cream cones.

" I like your products because they are locally made and that your family has been in the area for a long time," she says. "My favorite product is the whole milk with the cream on top! I use it for my coffee and tea, and to make rich, creamed soups in the winter."

Carolyn's daughters are now aged 31 and 25 and living in New York. They have fond memories of visiting the store and going on the dairy tour, especially seeing a baby wallaby being carried around in a homemade pouch.

Carolyn recently  brought an international student from China to the hands-on farm tour.

"It was her first time feeding a calf, milking a cow, and making butter, and she loved petting and feeding the kangaroos," Carolyn says. "I think the connections you make between the farm, your family and your customers helps us appreciate your products even more."

Thanks, Carolyn! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $30 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
CowoftheMonth Cow of the Month
According to herd manager Blake Hansen, the December Cow of the Month keeps getting better with age.

"The older she gets, the better she looks and performs," Blake says about  Bloom. "She is a fantastic, fertile cow."

Aged 4 years and 7 months, Bloom has already given birth to four calves, including three heifers that we named Brady, Bimini and Bryar. "It's kind of rare to see a cow calve four times before age 5," Blake says.

Bloom knows how to work in the milking parlor and is extremely nice to work with. She has pumped out 72,000 pounds of milk in her productive lifetime, which is an average of 85 pounds a day!

Tired of leftover turkey?  Or need a fun appetizer for your holiday parties?  Quesadillas are perfect!   You can use fresh ground meat, leftover turkey or even ham! (Although, I'd probably not add the taco seasoning if using ham - but you can experiment if you like!)   You can also add other toppings like olives, peppers or guacamole. For more simple recipes like this , check out my website at  www.JulieGrunklee.com.
