Governor Releases "May Revision" of the Budget
On Thursday, May 11, Governor Brown released his May Revision of the 2017-18 budget, which reflects updated revenues and expenditures for the first part of the year.  In his press release, the Governor explained that while forecasted revenues came in slightly higher than expected, significant additional spending is not being proposed because of uncertainty in Washington D.C. and the likelihood of an economic downturn in the future.  The May Revision proposes few additional expenditures, focusing instead on maintaining a prudent budget in anticipation of further economic slow down.

The Senate and Assembly budget subcommittees are now tasked with finalizing the budget proposals, including analyzing any changes proposed in the May Revision. [more...]

CASA Joins Broad Coalition in Support of the Low Carbon Fuel Standard
CASA is one of over 150 vehicle fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers, fuel producers, and associations who have urged Governor Brown and legislative leaders to retain the low carbon fuel standard (LCFS).  In a letter sent May 11, the coalition expressed strong support for the standard, which will reduce the carbon intensity of California's transportation fuels ten percent by 2020, and even more by 2030. Nearly every biofuel or renewable natural gas operation in California depends on the LCFS to secure financing that is needed to build and operate facilities. To date, the LCFS has supported over 20 low-carbon fuel plants throughout the state, and more are being proposed as a result of the policy. While no specific proposal to eliminate the LCFS at this time, the coalition felt it was important to weigh in now to protect it.
