will give a talk titled “Networked Collective Actions in South Korea” in Room 318, Bailey Hall from 4 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 7. Seo will untangle the network of interactions between diverse actors in South Korea that resulted in impeachment of President Park Geun-hye — one of the most significant citizen protests in the history of democratic South Korea.

n gave a lecture today in Watson Library on women’s rights post-suffrage, as part of KU’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of suffrage. She also appeared on
KCUR-FM’s “Up to Date”
on Oct. 31 to preview the lecture.

Gerri Berendzen
presented two sessions Friday at the National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C. Her sessions, “Editing Your Own Work” and “Is This Resource Reliable,” were attended by both journalism students and educators. Berendzen also served as a volunteer website and print critiquer on Friday and Saturday at the conference.

Assistant Professor Hong Vu
co-authored an article titled:
"With whom do consumers interact? Effects of online comments and perceived similarity on source credibility, content credibility, and personal risk perception,"
which has recently been accepted to the Journal of Social Marketing. In this experimental study, Vu worked with researchers from University of Georgia and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

Application for J-School scholarships open now
|
Each year, students are eligible to apply for School of Journalism scholarships, starting Oct. 1. All students admitted to the school are encouraged to apply. Students who receive KU renewable scholarships should note that the School of Journalism will likely be funding those scholarships during their junior and senior years. Students receiving renewable scholarships should still apply for journalism scholarships; additional funds may be available. Applications are due Dec. 1, and scholarship recipients will be notified in April 2020. Scholarships are for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 academic year.

The nationally acclaimed Carnegie-Knight News21 program is now accepting applications. During the spring semester, students take part in a seminar taught by News21 Executive Editor

During the summer, fellows work full time out of a digital newsroom at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University for 10 weeks, typically beginning in mid- to late May and ending in late July or early August. Fellows receive a $7,500 stipend plus travel expenses.

, 2004 J-School graduate, is the featured speaker for the Center for Global & International Studies' Global Food for Thought lecture series. Centeno will share how his experiences as a journalism undergraduate and global and international studies graduate student laid the groundwork for his nearly decade-long career with the United Nations World Food Program and hhis current position with MIT’s Solve initiative.
