Congratulations to our Lake Nona Chorus students who performed in the Florida American Choral Directors Association Honor Choir. These students auditioned and were selected out of hundreds of entries throughout the state. We are very proud of these fine musicians who represented Lake Nona Middle School with expressivity and pride!

When the creative Knights in our yearbook club look back on the
2019-2020 school year for memorable highlights, the early days of this nine-week quarter will most definitely stand out! As evidence of this, we have chosen to squeeze every space opportunity herein to include images from a wide variety of success stories and special events that our Knights have experienced over the past couple of weeks. Therefore, my opening remarks are brief except to say thank you to our Knights, their highly dedicated teachers, our tireless support staff, and some pretty incredible parents and volunteers for all their recent efforts as illustrated below across a wide range of school activities. I am so proud of all of you!

2019-2020 Quarter 1 Straight 'A' Honor Roll
Students that made all A's on their report card for Quarter 1 were awarded with the Principal's Honor Roll Certificates last week by Principal Jackson with a tribute in the cafeteria.Congratulations to these Knights on a very impressive quarter!

Sixth Grade World History with Mrs. Jaquez
Students in Mrs. Jaquez's 6th grade World History class used the Google Expeditions app and VR viewers to experience what life was like in ancient Egypt in 3D. Students visited the Nile River, the pharaoh's palace, an ancient temple and even went inside a burial tomb! They also visited the Pyramids at Giza and saw the modern city of Cairo.

PTSA Fall Dance
Highlights (Nov. 1)
|
LNMS had its first dance of the school year with the theme based on the horror web show "Stranger Things" set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in November 1983. The PTSA set the atmosphere with haunted houses, lots of food and a popular DJ.
Thank you very much to our PTSA for organizing and working to help fund this wonderful evening which our Knights thoroughly enjoyed!

The theme is a call to action to speak out in support of healthy choices. The theme is also a reminder that by staying drug free, you are sending a message to yourself and others about how much you value yourself, your overall health, your community and your future.

For Red Ribbon Week, students and staff had dress days to raise drug awareness. We wore red to send the message to "Stay Drug Free."

Both volleyball teams break even this week with one win and one loss.
Monday vs. Meadow Woods
Girls volleyball bounced back Monday by defeating Meadow Woods in just two sets. After winning the first set our gentlemen ended up losing the game to Meadow Woods, playing a total of 3 sets.
Wednesday vs. Hunter's Creek
The Lady Knights lost in two very intense matches and our boys beat the undefeated Eagles in just two sets.
We play one game next Wednesday starting at 5pm against Westridge Middle School.

On Thursday, October 17th, 7th * 8th graders in the LNMS band program were invited to play with the high school band during the football game. The students did great and had a wonderful time!

Congratulations Ms. Menard!
Ms. Menard, 6th grade science teacher, was awarded funds for a grant she wrote this past summer from Duke Energy. The money is for a garden that 6th grade students will use to create different investigations aimed at protecting our environment.

Ms. Oms brings a Mexican tradition to life . . .
Ms. Oms is a LNMS Spanish teacher that adds creativity to her lessons when teaching the different traditions of Hispanic countries. In the photo, she is painted for the Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos holiday celebrated throughout Mexico which was developed from ancient traditions among it's pre-Columbian cultures.
