Want to Learn More About Our Acupuncture Certification Program?
Introduction to Veterinary Medical Acupuncture (Module 1) provides students with 16 hours of pre-course online videos, which will teach the anatomy of the major points, to include neurological, musculoskeletal, fascial, and lymphatic structures associated with each. The live sessions will teach the basics of needling and electrical stimulation to allow therapists to immediately start treating patients to build their skill base as they progress through more advanced modules, and acquire case logs for upcoming sessions.

The Business of Canine Rehabilitation features three instructors, each with busy, growing, successful rehabilitation practices. Faculty will be veterinarian

During this course, students will learn how to write a business plan that fits their finances, space, staff, and client needs. Interactive panel discussions will present strategies for achieving profitability in a canine rehabilitation practice including design, equipment selection, services/fees, operations, staffing and marketing.

Veterinary Students: Learn About Changes to Our Rehabilitation and Acupuncture Certification Programs and Our New Discount.
 We know that veterinary students that graduate with certifications in veterinary rehabilitation and/or acupuncture have more to offer a potential employer. But finances and school schedules can make this additional training very challenging. With this in mind, CRI has made adjustments to our rehabilitation and acupuncture certification programs just for veterinary students.
Certification in Canine Rehabilitation (CCRT): Students can start their training by taking
Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation any time after their first year. They can then take the second module,
Clinical Skills, any time after their second year. After their third year, they can take the last module,
Clinical Applications, followed by a 40-hour
internship. Certification will be awarded when the students obtain their veterinary licenses.
Certification in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture (CVAT): Students can start their training by taking
Introduction to Veterinary Medical Acupuncture any time after their first year. They can then take the second module,
Veterinary Medical Acupuncture for Sports Medicine/Rehabilitation Patients any time after their second year, and the last module,
Canine and Feline Medical Acupuncture, any time after their third year. Certification will be awarded when the students obtain their veterinary licenses.
We encourage veterinary students to take advantage of the 20% discount off the tuition we are currently offering. We are also in discussions with our sponsor companies to develop tuition assistance programs.

Those of you who have been certified for at least 12 months are welcome to attend the Advanced Canine Rehabilitation Therapist module. This course offers a quick review of your Therapist module techniques as a refresher. It will then teach you to advance your manual skills, provide you with new approaches for your neuro patients, and advance your therapeutic exercise program. This course is taught by CRI faculty member Ellen Martens, PT, MT, CCRT, and a team of CRI teaching assistants. As Ellen is based in Belgium, we offer this module once per year at her incredible facility there. If you prefer to attend the Advanced Canine Rehabilitation Therapist module in the United States, please contact us at [email protected].

 We're Returning to Australia in July 2020!
CRI is excited to announce that we plan to bring our
Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation module to Brisbane on 25-29 July 2020. This exciting module covers the anatomy, biomechanics, manual techniques, physical modalities, and therapeutic exercises needed to successfully practice canine rehabilitation. Small class size, loads of demo dogs, and a friendly, talented faculty assure that you will leave this course confirmed in the skills that you need.

We Had a Great Time in Singapore!
CRI founder Dr. Janet Van Dyke had a great experience earlier in October at the
Singapore Vet meeting. She enjoyed seeing many CRI graduates and fielding questions from dozens of interested veterinarians and vet nurses who plan to attend CRI courses in the coming year.

Introducing The Tayla Fund
CRI is pleased to announce the creation of The Tayla Fund, in memory of Tayla, a long-time favorite demo dog and the beloved companion of Janessa Shine, an O.R. nurse at Coral Springs Animal Hospital.
Donations to The Tayla Fund are tax-deductible and will be used to pay for rehabilitation at Coral Springs Animal Hospital for clients who cannot afford it.
Dr. Janet Van Dyke, CRI's founder and CEO, made the first donation to launch The Tayla Fund.

Our Updated CCRT Curriculum Begins in 2020!
Starting January 1, 2020, the three modules for CCRT certification will be:
- Module 1: Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation. The content of this module will remain essentially the same. This is a 5-day course.
- Module 2: Clinical Skills (currently called Canine Rehabilitation Therapist). Students will be introduced to clinical assessment, goal setting, treatment planning, and outcome measurement from a physical therapy perspective. This is a 5-day course.
- Module 3: Clinical Applications. This is a new hands-on course where students will be able to practice their evaluation skills, create assessments, and present treatment plans for all types of canine rehabilitation cases. This is a 3-day course.
- Internship: A 40-hour internship remains a requirement for CCRT certification.
These changes only apply to the CCRT certification program for veterinarians and physical therapists. There is NO change to the CCRVN/CCRA curriculum
for veterinary technicians/nurses.

 CRI Faculty Member Dr. Kristin Kirkby Shaw Launches New Canine Arthritis Educational Website!
Congratulations to CRI faculty member Kristin Kirkby Shaw, DVM, MS, PhD, CCRT, DACVS, DACVSMR, who has founded Canine Arthritis Resources and Education (CARE - CanineArthritis.org). CARE is a free resource to help dog owners navigate osteoarthritis (OA) with their veterinarian and learn evidence-guided techniques to improve their dog's quality of life. Veterinary professionals can sign up for free memberships to access tools, forms, and videos for use in their practice and that they can share with clients.
"Veterinarians see dogs with OA daily but have many topics to cover during patient visits and may not have time to review comprehensive OA plans with their clients," said Dr. Kirkby Shaw. "I created CARE to help as many dogs with OA as possible - more than I can as a clinician in practice. The resources and tools available on the website can help veterinarians continue the discussion of OA after their initial diagnosis. And, while I can't make specific recommendations for dogs that are not my patients, I can share exactly what I do with my own dogs who have OA."
 To launch her new venture, Dr. Kirkby Shaw traveled to New York City in August to take part in a satellite media tour on National Dog Day, and talk about canine arthritis. Her interviews were aired on numerous TV news broadcasts.

 Dive Into Our New Online Aquatics Course!
In our newest online course, Aquatic Therapy in Canine Rehabilitation, CRI faculty members Ellen Martens, PT, MT, CCRT, and Wendy Davies, BS, CVT, CCRVN, VTS (Phys Rehab), explain how the resistance and buoyancy of water can be used for canine fitness, conditioning, injury recovery, and relief from joint pain. Topics include how to create an aquatic therapy program, aquatic rehabilitation exercises, hydrotherapy equipment and products, swimming pool vs. underwater treadmill, safety concerns, and how to make aquatic therapy profitable for your practice.

 Congratulations to Pickles, Our Breezie Demo Dog of the Month!
Our October Breezie Demo Dog Award Winner is Pickles, a miniature bull terrier who is about 3 years old. Pickles is the beloved companion of Dr. Jalise Zumstein, an associate veterinarian at our Colorado host facility, Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Pickles is a very happy dog with lots of spunk who just loves coming to CRI labs to help our students learn.

Pickles is a wonderful demo dog who definitely should receive the Breezie Award. The Breezie Demo Dog of the Month Award is given in memory of Breezie, who was the lead demo dog for our Coral Springs courses for more than 9 years and helped to educate more than 800 veterinary and physical therapy professionals. She was such a great demo dog that our faculty would beg to have her in their small group sessions. Breezie's favorite holiday was Halloween when she was always the best dressed dog in Coral Springs! |
