ILLINOIS HOCKEY HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2019
Illinois hockey has a very long and rich hockey history, due in large part, to the foundation laid down by these inductees and their tireless dedication in making sure every individual who had a desire to participate in this great sport has had the opportunity to do so.

The IHHF Induction Dinner will be held in their honour on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at the Belvedere Banquet Hall located at 1170 West Devon Avenue in Elk Grove Village beginning at 5:00 pm. Tickets are available by contacting Norm Spiegel at (847) 269-2922 or email Norm at [email protected].

Joining in honoring this special group of inductees will be several of the past inductees into the Hall of Fame. This year's inductees, and all of the past inductees have demonstrated, through their actions over the years, their personal commitment in making a difference in the lives of thousands of Illinois youth and the Illinois hockey community.

Goalie Nation Comes Together for First-Ever Goaltending Summit & Seminar in Illinois
By Jim Clare, Illinois Coach-in-ChiefRecently Steve Thompson, ADM National Goaltending Manager for USA Hockey joined 20 goalie coaches in Illinois for a Bronze Level Goalie Coach Seminar.  Bronze Level is the first step in the goaltending coach development program. The idea behind the clinics is to begin to educate more goaltending coaches across the state, develop their practice planning skills, and eventually have them progress through the Silver and Gold levels. Coaches can then take their knowledge and use it in two ways; help the state find more new goalies and better develop the ones we have. READ MORE>>

USA Hockey Increases Penalty for Racial/Derogatory Slurs
USA Hockey announced a presidential directive that changes the penalty for racial/derogatory slurs of any kind that fall under Rule 601 (e. 3) from a game misconduct to a match penalty.  "We continue to get reports of disturbing incidents of racial and other derogatory slurs, behavior which is reprehensible and has absolutely no place in our game, especially around our children," said Jim Smith, president of USA Hockey. "For reasons I cannot explain or understand, the current penalty in place does not seem to be enough of a deterrent to stop this type of conduct." READ MORE>>

HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY HEADLINES
Where Do I Belong?
By Jack Weinberg, AHAI High School Committee Chairman - There seems to be some confusion as to where participants and fans belong at the rink. The player benches are restricted for safety and administrative reasons to specific numbers and types of people. A team may only have twenty players including 2 goalies for any game. A total of 4 coaches maximum are allowed on the bench.

In some cases there will be an adult in the penalty box to open and close the door; they may not be coaching, interfacing with on-ice officials or cheering. They are minor officials as are the scorekeeper and clock operator. They cease to be allowed to do anything but the specific task for which they are in those areas. If they do, they will be removed from those special areas. READ MORE>>
