OLLI Members' "Happiness Curve" Results Published

In 2015, more than 175 OLLI members participated in a survey about happiness in late life. The survey was an offshoot of an OLLI class on the "happiness curve," taught by Marjorie Getz, associate professor, UnityPoint Health-Methodist College, and frequent OLLI instructor and facilitator.

Marjorie offered the survey to assist Jonathan Rauch, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, complete his research on the topic of happiness. That research has resulted in a new book, The Happiness Curve: Why Life Gets Better After 50 , which will be published May 1 by St. Martin's Press.

The Washington Post Magazine has also recently published an excerpt .

"It's exciting to see the study come to fruition," Marjorie said, "I'm so thankful to all of the OLLI members who helped make the research a reality."

Why Our Members Give to OLLI

We're about six weeks away from the end of OLLI's fiscal year, and by May 31, we hope to have a 50% giving rate to our learning community.   We are so very close ... as of today, we need 200 more people to donate to meet this goal!

If you haven't yet given this year (June 2017 to today), please watch this video to see why others do ... and learn how your donation, no matter the amount, will build a sustainable OLLI  that benefits YOU now, and helps FUTURE members participate in our learning community.

PAWAC Hosts Ambassador - Makes Special Offer to OLLI

William Taylor

Ukraine at the Forefront
Wednesday, April 25
5:00 p.m. Dinner, Executive Suite
7:00 p.m. Program, Marty Theater
Bradley University Michel Student Center

The Peoria Area World Affairs Council will host Ambassador William Taylor, U.S. ambassador to Ukraine from 2006-2009, at this special program in which the Ambassador explores the importance of Ukraine in U.S. policies.

Ukraine finds itself caught between East and West, seemingly with no resolution for its territorial disputes with Russia in sight.  With Russia's involvement in Syria heating up, Ukraine may play an even more pivotal role in developments in the region, likely not in her favor.  Ambassador Taylor has State Department service in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, giving him a unique ability to address current events.

Dinner costs $35 for PAWAC members, $45 for non-members.  SPECIAL OFFER: OLLI friends may register at the PAWAC member rate! Seating for the dinner is limited, so register soon!

For more information or to register, visit  pawac.org or call Angela Weck at (309) 645-2580.
