York Lake Golf & Country Club Crowd Funding Campaign

The York Lake Golf & Country Club launched a Crowd Funding campaign on November 24, 2016.  The campaign was a pilot project in collaboration with Community Futures, and was designed to raise $5000 by January 6, 2017.

The target for the money raised was to assist with the installation of an improved air-conditioning system for the York Lake clubhouse, hence the title of the campaign was "Baby It's Cold Inside".  The campaign involved providing a number of "perks" for golf & dining packages or vacation packages for various levels of contributions.

The campaign can be described as successful, in that the objective was largely achieved by the target date.

However there are a number of things anyone considering a similar campaign should keep in mind:
  • It is important to attempt to reach an email and social media audience beyond the club's regular membership. This can be somewhat challenging
  • All costs should be taking into consideration before mounting such a campaign (eg Credit Card or Paypal fees)
  • Such campaigns require a fair amount of work.  The campaign required weekly (or more often) tweaking.
In summary, York Lake Golf & Country Club was able to explore a new method of raising money and we were able to learn a great deal in the process.
