Alamo Colleges District - Palo Alto College Celebrates Student Success at Honors Ceremony
Palo Alto College students were recognized for academic achievement at the college's Honors Ceremony.
Alamo Colleges District - Palo Alto College (PAC) held its semi-annual Academic Honors Ceremony on Tuesday, March 28 (college students) and Wednesday, March 29 (early college high school and dual credit students), to recognize students who earned a 3.5 or higher GPA. Over 1,500 family, friends, and guests attended the ceremony over both nights. The ceremony serves to empower students for their academic achievements.
In other student honors news, PAC students Emmanuel Nyong and Yazmin Luevanos and St. Philip's College student Stephanie Papist were selected as three of the 100 outstanding community college students in Texas to be members of the All Texas Academic Team. Members of the team represent the best and brightest students who excel in academics, leadership and service.
Alamo Colleges District - St. Philip's College Dual Credit Students Awarded National Merit Honors
Four students from St. Philip's College's Memorial Early College High School earned honors in the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test Program.
The Alamo Colleges District - St. Philip's College (SPC) dual credit team announced that four SPC - Memorial Early College High School students have been recognized with honors in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test Program. Students and their achievements are: Hunter Brown (National Merit Commended Scholar); Alan Martinez (National Merit Hispanic Scholar); Jeffrey Malone (National Merit Semi-Finalist); and Keaton Rodriguez (National Merit Commended Scholar and Hispanic Scholar).
SPC operates the Memorial Early College High School in partnership with the Comal Independent School District. It is one of 16 early college high schools operated by the Alamo Colleges District in partnership with local K-12 school districts.
Northeast Lakeview College graduate Alexis Humphrey has been selected for a summer internship at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Alamo Colleges District - Northeast Lakeview College graduate lands summer internship
Alamo Colleges District - Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) graduate Alexis Humphrey has been accepted for a Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in marine and estuary science. With the guidance of a faculty mentor, she and other interns will conduct original research projects in marine science topics. Students will work on their research in multiple laboratories and gain hands-on experience through field excursions at the Maryland coastal bays, Chesapeake Bay or the Atlantic Ocean.
Participants will present their research to their peers and mentors at a symposium at the Sarbanes Coastal Ecology Center on the final day of the internship. Humphrey transferred from NLC in Fall 2016 and is currently studying marine biology at The University of Texas at Austin. She will receive a stipend of $5,250 paid bi-weekly over the course of the 10-week summer program.
