This week the campus will be quiet as we are closed for Thanksgiving break. Classes will resume on Monday, December 2. I saw in the news that this week will be the second-highest Thanksgiving travel volume since AAA began tracking in 2000, trailing only the record set in 2005. I share this because if your family will be out on the busy roadways visiting friends and family, I remind you to buckle up and to please drive carefully. We want all of our Knights to have a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday and I am looking forward to seeing all of our Knights back on campus December 2!

With Knight Pride,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal
Lake Nona Middle School

Central Florida is at the top of the list as a Thanksgiving destination this week, so even if you are not leaving town, please stay alert when driving.

Knight Music

Chorus
The Lake Nona middle school Treble Voices traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to work with Mary Biddlecombe at Vanderbilt University and Dr. Lesley Mann at Belmont University. They had two extra special workshops where they were able to enhance their singing with such great leadership in front of them. They also had some time to enjoy at little sights and sounds of Nashville and it's rich history.

Knight Sports
Girls volleyball advances to playoffs!

This last Wednesday our teams traveled to Walker Middle for their last games of the regular season.

Our Lady Knights won the game in just two sets assuring their spot in playoffs.

Our boys season came to an end Wednesday evening as the game did not go in our favor. We are extremely proud of our boys team and their efforts this season!

** The Lady Knights host the first round of playoffs when we come back from break on Wednesday, December 4th at 5pm.

Knights Respond to Make the VA Merry and Bright!
Knights help to brighten up the VA Hospital for the holiday season.

Knights make the VA Hospital "merry and bright" for the holidays. Voluntary Services from the Orlando VA Medical Center reached out to our service clubs to see who would be interested in "adopting a tree" at the VA for decorating. They would provide the 6 foot lit trees and our clubs would provide the ornaments. Below is what our Knights accomplished!

Spanish Honor Society, C-2 Club, and Mrs. Rivera Cuevas (Spanish teacher) went to the Veterans Hospital and decorated two Christmas trees. The students made the ornaments with napkins and named one tree "The Thank You Garden." Lake Nona Middle's name will be placed by this tree.

Ms. Morris and Ms. Ostrow (6th grade) trim a tree at the Veterans Administration.

Nature Club's & the Sustainability Club's tree also decorated and all lit at the Veterans Administration.

The teachers and staff celebrated after school with a Thanksgiving feast. (Can you tell they are looking forward to the holidays?) Many smiles and chatter around the cafeteria as teachers took time for themselves to socialize and acknowledge good teaching.

Knight Visitors

Each November, in celebration of American Education Week, we bring in business and civic leaders. Some volunteers specifically include chefs, real estate managers, Lockheed Martin engineers, doctors from Nemours Children's Hospital and many more including our neighboring Publix Supermarket that visit our classrooms to talk with our students about academics, careers and the future. Thank you again to everyone that turned out this past Thursday!

Community footnote: We plan to include additional images of our wonderful guest speakers in the next issue following the Thanksgiving break. Thank you again to everyone that donated their valuable time to speak to our Knights!

Knight Flags
Campus beautification thanks to one of our awesome bus drivers, Mr. Pete Bernard.

The new school flowers near the bus loop are the work of one of our bus drivers. Mr. Pete Bernard has a passion for anything growing and found a need of a plant with weeds and much neglect. He mulched the area and gave each student on his bus a flag to "plant" with the flowers.

Thank you Mr. Bernard for seeing a need and improving the front of our school.

Students with Mr. Bernard this past week around our new flower garden.

If you look closely, you can see how Mr. Bernard had flags from nations all over the world for students to plant in the new flower bed.

* As this was the week leading into a major holiday, the weekly results were not available at time of production. They will be included in the next issue. Moreover, it is normal for the number of classroom visits to slow on pre-holiday weeks such as this one plus one administrator was out sick.
