Monthly News from FAEA
From the President's Palette

Greetings art educators! We are in the final weeks of the school year and summer break is quickly approaching. Although there is a great deal of work to complete prior to the last day, there are also many events to enjoy before departing for summer vacation. Many of us are chaperoning field trips, displaying the culminating art show, distributing art awards and of course Teacher Appreciation is next week! We hope you are showered with gifts of gratitude and recognized for your hard work instilling creativity in students. On behalf of FAEA, thank you for your commitment and dedication to the students of Florida.

A wonderful way to show appreciation to a fellow art teacher is to nominate them for an award. The Florida Art Education Association presents annual awards to recognize individuals within the membership who have achieved the highest level of professionalism in art education. The award program also demonstrates appreciation for individuals or organizations that have contributed their services in an exemplary way to the association and to the professional goals we share. The Awards Committee is proud to announce a new award this year: Special Needs! The Special Needs Award is for a member that has brought distinction to Special Needs in art education. Log in to complete the application and nominate a deserving colleague for the 2017 FAEA Awards recognizing outstanding professionals in the field of art education.

Although the school year is winding down, FAEA Board members and committees are hard at work. Our next board meeting is May 13th and the agenda is packed with summer workshop and conference preparation. A major component of the upcoming board meeting is the 65th Annual FAEA Conference in St. Petersburg. The conference committee, chaired by President-elect Lark Keeler, is working on unique artistic and education experiences focused on the theme The Power of Art!

The Florida Art Education Association is thrilled to announce the keynote speakers for the 2017 FAEA Conference. Duncan McClellan, award winning glass artist and gallery owner, will present on his artistic journey and current projects. In addition to Duncan McClellan's talk, conference attendees will have the opportunity to tour his gallery and workshop.

The 2017 FAEA conference lineup of extraordinary keynote speakers will continue with
Michelle "Livey" Livek. Michelle will present her Touchstone project using tiny masterpieces to mark the moment. We look forward to the both keynote presentations which fully embrace our theme The Power of Art.

Another highlight of the FAEA annual conference is the Saturday evening Gala. The 2017 Gala theme is What's your Superpower? Start brainstorming creative outfits for the energetic evening that concludes conference. Attendees are invited to showcase their super designs to compete for prizes.
