The JARI Growth Fund (JGF) recently received certification as a  Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) by the U.S. Treasury. JGF, which started in May of 2016, has taken nearly a year to reach the milestone. The planning involved creating the JGF mission and establishing a board of directors, loan review committee and securing seed funding.

The JGF's first available fund, seeded by the Cambria County Alliance for Business and Industry, is the "Small Business Loan Fund" which is currently lending between $2,500 and $25,000 to eligible small businesses in Cambria County. Other funds will be established for lending to projects throughout the Southern Alleghenies region which includes Cambria, Somerset, Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon and Fulton counties.

Collaborators Organize Quality of Life Summit
Ryan Kieta
Vision2025 Consultant

On May 10th over 120 health care providers, front line workers, and concerned citizens convened at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown for the first-ever Cambria County Quality of Life Summit to discuss ways to improve the county's population health.

In 2016 Cambria County ranked 63 out of 67 Pennsylvania counties with contributing factors including drug overdoses and suicides.  The summit was organized to discuss this statistic, while also initiating a road map to improve the county's health ranking, and bring together individuals and organizations focused on building a happier and healthier Cambria County.

The summit represents a highly collaborative approach, with organizational input from: the Vision2025 action team Bridging Cambria County; the 1889 Jefferson Center for Population Health; Cambria County Commissioners; Cambria County Drug Alliance; Conemaugh Health System; Community Foundation for the Alleghenies; Goodwill Industries of the Southern Alleghenies; Lee Initiatives; and United Way of the Laurel Highlands.

In the coming months, Bridging Cambria County will be working with the summit organizers and "on-the-ground" organizations to build a Collective Impact Model for collaborating on improving Cambria County's health.
