Director Message:
We coach players to help them correct mistakes to establish good habits on the field. Although, there are times when we are trying to help a player transform a bad habit into a good habit. Mistakes can be adjusted quickly, but habits take more time, patience, and coaching to change. We need to recognize when we are trying to help a player break a bad habit or correct a mistake. Both situations require two very different approaches by the coach.

CLASSICS EAGLES UPDATES
MEET CLASSICS EAGLES BLAZE

This week we are getting the opportunity to learn more about Classics Eagles U14 Girls Blaze. Coach Brad Barker, describes the team, introduces his assistant coaches, and reviews the Fall season. Blaze has been a part of Classics Eagles for many years and it is fun to see how this group has grown over that time. We appreciate the players and families commitment to the team, and all the time and effort put in by the coaches. This is a group that is fun to watch play, and are driven to continue to improve individually and as a team. Learn more by clicking on the picture below:

HABITS
For soccer players, habits are key to being successful. Technical, tactical, physical, and psychological skills are required to play the game at a high level, but bad habits can sabotage a player who is elite in all of those areas. On the flip side, great habits can make average players in these areas perform at a much higher level than what would be assumed to be possible. Good habits at training and in games will be the reason some players continue to play this game for many years at a high level.  Read more!

Youth Sport Specialization Risks and Recommendations

The National Athletic Trainers' Association recently recognized National Youth Sport Specialization Awareness Week, and through this shared data from recent studies on the impact and pitfalls of sport specialization during adolescence.

NATA defines sport specialization as, "when a youth athlete plays one sport at the exclusion of other sports", and identifies several potential physical and mental health risks, such as, "overuse injuries, nutritional and sleep inadequacies, social isolation, compromised growth and physical maturation and burnout". For more on NATA's sport specialization definition and risks, click here .

To prevent these outcomes, NATA has put together the following recommendations, which have been endorsed by the  Professional Football Athletic Trainers' Society, Professional Hockey Athletic Training Society, Professional Soccer Athletic Trainers' Society, National Basketball Athletic Trainers' Association, Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers' Society and the NATA Intercollegiate Sports Medicine Council.
