New Pedestrian Crosswalk Near Children's School
In the spirit of safety and progress, we've created a new pedestrian walkway for those parking on Broadmoor Avenue. The open gate is between the Early Childhood Center and the Children's Academic Center. It is clearly marked and identified by speed bumps.

During Children's School morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, please observe this crosswalk by yielding to pedestrians. The addition of this crosswalk on the busy interior road of campus is to eliminate the unsafe practice of families walking in-between the double lanes of traffic by which family vehicles and school buses are moving.

Please pass along this information to any grandparents, siblings, or caregivers who are responsible for bringing your child to and from school.

History Made with All-State Honors for Kate G. '20
For the first time in school history, a CSS runner has earned All-State honors. Senior Kate G. was named to Colorado's teams by CHSAA based on the results from the state meet.

Kate has left her mark on the Kodiak athletic program, earning All-State honors in golf and tennis in years past. This is a first All-State honor for Kate in cross country after her 12th place finish, and it is a nice finish to her record-breaking running career. We are proud of you, Kate!

"Kate's presence on the XC team since her freshman year has completely elevated our program," said Head Coach Jolly Cunha. "Her leadership on and off the course has established the bar for future Kodiak runners, and she has set high standards for others to meet. Kate is a winner in all aspects and her winning attitude impacts those around her, making them better runners and people."

Upper School student performs with Colorado College Concert Band
Congratulations to senior Sam J. '20 for performing as a trombonist with the Colorado College Concert Band this week! CSS Director of Bands Brent Moorhead said while several CSS Band students have performed in the local Colorado Springs Youth Symphony program, this was a first for a member of our band to both rehearse and perform with a collegiate-level ensemble. Sam's trombone instructor, Jeremy Van Hoy, is the director of the Colorado College Concert Band and invited Sam to perform with them.
Students Help with Raku Firing
Upper School students in ceramics class participated in a Raku firing outside of the Carriage House this week with teachers Kaja Reynolds and Hans Wolfe. The process is based on an ancient Japanese technique. The pottery is put in a Raku kiln and fired to a low temperature, about 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the pots are red hot, they are removed quickly and placed in a container with combustible materials such as sawdust, newspaper, and leaves. Once the materials ignite, the containers are covered to reduce the amount of oxygen, and the glazes will mature as the pieces cool down.
Eighth graders participate in Visit Up Day
Eighth graders recently participated in Visit Up Day to experience a snapshot of a-day-in-the-life of an Upper School student. They began by playing speed friending in which they sat face-to-face and quickly answered questions such as what do you like best about CSS and is your glass half full or half empty? Then 8th graders moved to the next Upper School student to answer a new question. From trying out a club to sitting in on a psychology, humanities or math class, Visit Up Day celebrates our Upper School Kodiak life.
PreKindergarten Collecting Markers to Recycle
Even our youngest students learn valuable lessons and enjoy a sense of pride through service! PreK students are leading a   Crayola Marker Recycling Project. Their bright yellow collection boxes are located inside the front door of the Early Childhood Center (ECC) and the Children's Academic Center (CAC). Have dried-out markers? Save them up and drop them off.
Submit Student Achievements & Photos

Parents and teachers are encouraged to submit nominations and digital photos of student achievements to Anslee Wolfe, Communications and Marketing Manager, at  [email protected] These extracurricular achievements make us a well-rounded school and highlight the many unique talents and passions of our student body. Each week, a diverse selection of achievements is highlighted in ROAR and shared on social media.
