MAAG, in conjunction with the Delta Human Resource Agency and the Shelby County Housing Department, are currently helping low income elderly homeowners through the Emergency Repair Program. This program, which is funded by the Tennessee Housing Development Agency, provides grants to low income, elderly homeowners who are 60 years or older to correct, repair, or replace an essential system and/or a critical structural problem. The purpose of the program is to provide essential repairs to make the home livable.
Who should take this course?
- First-time homebuyers
- Borrowers who need homebuyer education certificates to qualify for a loan
- Individuals looking to become more educated about homeownership
- Homebuyers working with local housing counselors

West Tennessee Rural Planning Organization Announcements
A public meeting of the West Tennessee Rural Planning Organization - Executive Board (WTRPO-EB) and Technical Committee (WTRPO-TC) - will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the University of Memphis-Millington Center, 6500 Navy Road, Millington, TN. The Joint Meeting will take place at 10 A.M.
The West Tennessee Rural Planning Organization (WTRPO) is responsible for comprehensive, regional, multi-modal transportation planning in Fayette, Lauderdale, and Tipton Counties. The WTRPO is partially funded by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). The purpose of the meeting will be to conduct elections for the officers in question. This meeting will also include a workshop where each county will be responsible for identifying their counties' development profiles by producing transect maps with the help of the RPO coordinator. Organics Management Grant
The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) announced the availability of grant funding for food waste diversion. The Division of Solid Waste Management will be accepting grant applications for organics management through June 30, 2017. Grant offerings will support the entire spectrum of organics management, including but not limited to: composting, food recovery, food donation, education on food waste and recovery, and diversion infrastructure. All of these methods of organics management support TDEC's 2015-2025 Solid Waste and Materials Management Plan.
Cultural Corridor Consortium Grants
Transportation for America is seeking to award $50,000 (each) to creative placemaking projects in three cities that engage residents, attract the attention of local public works and transportation agencies, and spark new conversations that bring more people to the table to plan and implement new transportation investments. T4America is especially committed to funding collaborative projects that expand transportation opportunities and local control for low-income people, recent immigrants, and people of color living in communities that have experienced disproportionate disinvestment and disconnection. Applications due June 2.

Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program
Have an idea for a trail, river, or park in your community?
The National Park Service (NPS) can help! The NPS Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program supports community-led natural resource conservation and outdoor recreation
projects across the nation. NPS's national network of conservation and recreation planning professionals partners with community groups, nonprofits, tribes, and state and local governments to design trails and parks, conserve and improve access to rivers, protect special places, and create recreation opportunities.
Applications are due June 30. Potential applicants should contact their
nearest RTCA staff member as early as possible to discuss their interest, and no later than May 30.

Governor Haslam created the
Rural Task Force
to bring resources together from a wide range of organizations to advance rural communities and economic development throughout Tennessee. The Task Force exists to build a stronger rural Tennessee by driving local, state and federal partnerships and stakeholders to continuously improve education, health, entrepreneurial opportunities, economic and workforce development and digital infrastructure. "Tennessee I hear You Calling Me" Festival and Event Workshop
Tennessee Department of Tourist Development (TDTD) with Southeast Festival and Events Association present "Tennessee I Hear You Calling Me" Festival and Event Workshop 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 14 at Oaklands Mansion in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This free event offers a robust day of all things festivals and events.
MAAG Rural Marketing Co-op Grant
MAAG Rural Marketing Co-Op grant funded three projects in the MAAG region for fiscal year 17. Alex Haley Museum in Lauderdale County made website enhancements, the Veteran's Museum in Lauderdale County posted a billboard on Highway 51 near its Halls, TN exit, and Fayette County Government updated its West Tennessee Day Trippin' video that highlighted more attractions within the county. This co-op funding was provided by a partnership between MAAG and the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development's Developmental Co-op. MAAG plans to continue this partnership and encourages more attractions to apply for the MAAG Rural Marketing Co-Op grant to promote rural tourism.
