May has arrived, which means that there are only two weeks left in the 14-week semester--the last day is May 12th! We will then have our 3-week spring interim session and the semester will be officially over. Can you believe your student is about to finish their first year at UWO!?!!

Academic Information
It's not too late to sign up for a spring interim class. Interim session runs
May 15 - June 2. Students can add an interim course until May 16. This is a great way for your student to get in some extra credits for little or no charge. If their spring semester credit total is between 12 - 18 credits including interim, there isn't an extra charge for the interim class. There also isn't an extra charge for their residence hall room or their meal plan. The only expense would be for a textbook and course materials. They can complete a search within TitanWeb to see which courses are available during interim.

Students can check their spring semester grades in TitanWeb beginning on
May 19. Suspension appeals are due June 20.

Your student has learned a lot in their first year of college, and not just in their courses. Over the coming summer and in their second year, they can continue to build on the learning foundation they have built by engaging in more "High Impact Practices." These are the kinds of activities that transform a student into an employee, a professional, a citizen, a leader; and a degree into a job, a career, a purpose.

High Impact Practices include:
Encourage your student to continue learning and to consider some of these High Impact Practices.

Residence Life
It's almost time for Goodwill, Not Landfill! During residence hall move-out, we ask students to be mindful of their efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Your student may have many items they no longer want or need; these items may be donated in each residence hall's lobby! In every residence hall lobby, during Move Out Week (May 4th - May 12th), there will be a Donation Station clearly labeled for students to donate: gently used clothing, household items, non-perishable foods, unopened toiletries, and school/office supplies. Please join us in encouraging your student to be sustainable as they depart for the summer!

All residence halls will remain open through the Spring Interim (Friday, June 2 at
8 p.m.). Students not enrolled in a Spring Interim course are asked to depart the residence hall by Noon on Saturday, May 13. Additional information has been shared with your student through email, a floor meeting, and posters in the hall.

Titan Dollars
Any remaining Titan Dollars on your student's account will need to be used by the end of spring semester (Friday, June 2) or they may move the remaining balance to a UWO Gift Card at the end of the semester. Gift cards can be used for 5 years! If your student is interested in moving the remaining balance to a UWO Gift Card, they should visit Titan Central located in Reeve Union.

Meal Plans
As the semester is coming to an end, please have your student check their remaining meal and Titan Dollars balances by visiting their MyUWO portal ( portal.housing.uwosh.edu) to ensure they have an understanding of what they have left to spend. Please note that your student's meal plan and Titan Dollars will work throughout the Spring Interim (thru Friday, June 2).

Dining hours of operations over Spring semester and Spring interim can be found at  reeve.uwosh.edu/hours. Feedback about food can be shared by emailing  [email protected]

Summer School
Click here to see information about taking classes during the summer. Taking summer classes allows your student to graduate on time or early! Financial Aid is available for summer classes. Apply for summer aid by filling out the 2017-18 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at fafsa.gov and also completing the online summer aid application on the Financial Aid website.

Next school year
The 2017-18 school year officially starts on September 6th. If your student is living in the residence halls next fall, they will move in on Monday, September 4th (Labor Day). Click here to view the 2017-18 Academic Calendar.

Just a reminder, per the Wisconsin Board of Regents' Housing Policy, first and second year students are required to live on campus unless they live within the 45 mile commuter range and are commuting from their parent's/legal guardian's permanent home. The university will exempt anyone if one or more of the following are true by the first day of fall semester: the student is married, are at least 21 years of age, have successfully earned at least 48 credits, or have lived in a residence hall for four semesters. Questions regarding the housing requirement may be directed to the Residence Life office at (920) 424-3212 or  [email protected]

Students who want or are required to live on campus during the 2017-2018 academic year are encouraged to apply for housing now! The housing application ( my.housing.uwosh.edu) will remain open for current residents through Sunday, June 4 before closing and reopening in July.

Financial Aid
The Financial Aid office has been busy sending financial aid awards out to students for the 2017-18 school year. To date, more than 5,000 students have been offered $96M in financial aid. Students should check their "to-do" lists on Titan Web if they haven't received an award letter.

Just this week, we received word from the U.S. Department of Education regarding changes to the financial aid process. We may now accept your signed and dated 2015 federal tax return for verification of income. Verification of Non-Filing: Parents and students who did not file a tax return for 2015 may write a signed and dated statement that they are not required to file a tax return for the year. Also, a list all sources of 2015 income need to be included on the statement. The U.S. Department of Education is providing this temporary relief as the IRS works on resolving security concerns with the Data Retrieval Tool (DRT).

It's not too late to file for Financial Aid for next school year. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at fafsa.gov. Students filing the FAFSA for 2017-18 will use their 2015 taxes and resources information to complete the process. If you have already filed the FAFSA, have your student check on their financial aid before the end of the current semester on their TItanWeb account. If everything is in place and you have financial aid for next year, you can relax and enjoy your summer. If you have questions, the Financial Aid staff are available Monday through Friday by phone at (920) 424-3377 or via email at [email protected].
