Board of Education Votes to Place Parcel Tax Measure on March 2020 Ballot
  
At its public meeting on November 12, the Board of Education for the Alameda Unified School District voted unanimously to place a parcel tax measure on the March 2020 ballot.  The tax is designed to support Alameda students by helping AUSD retain and attract high-quality employees.

Nominate a Teacher for Teacher of the Year!

Do you know a teacher who goes above and beyond in (and out of) the classroom? Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) is now accepting nominations for its Teacher of the Year program.
 
More details are available in this community bulletin and on the  Employee Recognition page   of the AUSD website. Teachers, staff, families, and students are all welcome to nominate a teacher; the deadline to submit nominations to the nominee's principal is 3 pm on December 17, 2019.
Board Briefs

At its November 12 public meeting, the Board of Education voted to:
  • place a measure on the March 2020 ballot for a parcel tax to help attract & retain high-quality employees;
  • adopt a student-initiated climate action resolution; and
  • direct staff to vote "yes" on AUSD's ballots for the City's Water Quality and Flood Protection Program Fee Ballot Measure (AUSD gets one vote for each of its 31 properties).  
The Board also heard presentations on two charter school petition renewals, Island High School's continuation program, AUSD's special education programs, and enrollment dates for the 2020-21 school year.

Deadline Extended! 
Mental Health Poster Contest

Let's Talk Alameda!, the steering committee for this year's community-wide focus on youth mental health and suicide prevention, is sponsoring a poster contest for AUSD students in grades 4-12. Posters should illustrate the importance of:
  • Knowing the signs of mental health issues
  • Learning how to talk about mental health issues OR
  • Becoming a helpful resource within the community 

Winners will be announced in early December. The winning posters will be displayed in City Hall. The deadline has been extended to 12 pm on December 4. For more information, please see the flyer or go to the Let's Talk! Alameda website.
