Under the Shadow
Isaiah 51:16- I covered you in the shadow of my hand
I am Steve Massey, or Esteban in Guatemala. My son and I have now moved to Guatemala. We are living in the village of Santiago Zamora. For the past thirty plus years, I have served as pastor in a variety of locations. 12 years ago, my son Marco was born and on St. Patrick's Day, he became our son through adoption. Marco was born in Mixco, Guatemala. He loves water parks, snakes, volcanoes, and Nintendo video games, not necessarily in that order. Sonic is his latest interest.
The church in Santiago Zamora, Guatemala has been without a pastor for the past seven years, so I was called by a mission agency called Lead a Child to fill that void. With GLO's help, I will be going there.

What a month!
On October 27, at Beautiful Savior, I was installed as missionary of Lead a Child called to serve the people of the World’s Redeemer Lutheran Church in Santiago Zamora. November 3, was the second installation. I was installed at the church I now serve. Pastors from six churches across Guatemala came to celebrate the occasion.

A week later came Escuelita Biblica (Little Bible School). I jumped right into things. The Lutheran school in Santiago Zamora held their VBS. The theme was the Animals of Christmas. In many ways, it was a typical VBS, but with a definite Guatemalan flair. Some of the teachers and students arrived wearing the Indigenous clothing. Whenever they could, they played soccer. Snack time included Jamaica (a tea brewed from the flower of the hibiscus), horchata (rice water), ponche (a Christmas fruit punch), churritos (a little like a small tamale). And every student received a gift bag with crayons, fruit snacks, and school supplies. It was a great start to our time here in Guatemala.
