THE LONG HAUL
The Long Haul
Service Leader: Rev. Christine Dance

Building a resilient and courageous community takes time and commitment. So does creating justice. We know that the moral universe’s arc is long; let’s imagine how we can bend that arc toward justice and live into our vision of being a spiritual community for our time.
There is no Inquirers on May 5 . All members are encouraged to attend the special congregational meeting after the service for the vote to call Rev. Dance as the next settled minister.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
We will have temporary air conditioning in the Sanctuary once again this Sunday May 5, and then the new A/C for the Sanctuary will be operational by Sunday, May 12. You may notice that the mounting boards for the air handlers in other rooms have been installed, and work in the hallway is proceeding. Out on the patio, the shade structure is up, and looks beautiful. The outer patio wall has been taken down, and we now know why it did not have proper footings, as there is serious rock under there. Heavy equipment is being brought in for the hard dig to place the new wall footings; the rest of the patio will not be poured until the wall construction is under way. Sand for the playground is expected next week, and then over the coming weeks the new play equipment will arrive and be installed.

The upper parking lot is CLOSED and the accessible entrance from the front is the ramped south door that you get to via the path on the left (south) side of the building from the main parking lot.
Additional parking for members and friends who can easily walk a short distance is available in the parking lot behind Christ Church School, which is our closest neighbor to the west, just on the other side of 40th Place.  The entrance to that parking lot is the Christ Church back drive off 40th place. There is a graded path to the west hallway door from 40th Place.

Listen to a podcast, read books and articles, watch a Ted Talk, or check out a packet of printed articles from the welcome desk, or come to office 2 and access the curriculum on the computers. Choose one focus that interests you, or move through all three, whatever works best in your life. ENGLAND: FROM LONDON AND OXFORD TO DEVON AND CORNWALL
with Joy and Bill Mee

After a few days in London visiting the Tate Modern Museum, Joy and Bill took a walking tour of Oxford city and university, a river trip and visits to Inspector Morris and Inspector Lewis haunts and Blenheim Palace. Heading west, they visited places from Downton Abbey in Bampton on and off the grounds of Highclere Castle. Moving west into Devon, they visited historic country hotels, Castle Drogos, and the Lanhydrock Estate, near Okehampton, and toured Dartmoor National Park with its Neolithic ruins, sheep, ancient stone formations, and wild horses. Then southwest to the seaport of Falmouth with a Truro River cruise, Lizard Point to hike the coastal trail, St. Ives for historic forts and seacoasts, St. Michael’s Mount for the castle and views, Portcurno for a Shakespeare play on the sea cliffs, Land’s End, Padstow for fish, and places where Poldark roamed. Finally up the west coast of Cornwall to Port Isaac, known to Doc Martin fans as Port Wenn, including an episode of Season VII being filmed and many familiar places from the series. Finally, drove to Tintagel, home of King Arthur’s Castle and a hotel frequented by Doc Martin. They saw beautiful castles and palaces, historic buildings, gardens, seacoasts, and natural beauty with very little rain. Call Barbara with questions.

The Outdoor Group is now going into summer hibernation. Some of us will be around over the summer; so if anyone wishes to lead a hike in the high country, email Bonnie at bwhite95065@yahoo.com . I will be happy to put the word out to see if we can stir up any interest.
Otherwise, I hope to see you all at the season opener October 5 at Sunset Crater National Monument outside of Flagstaff. We have reserved a lovely group campsite at O’Leary Campground. More details will be published in September. Ed Cernek and I are planning on camping from Thursday, October 3 through Sunday, October 6. Put it on your calendar now so that date stays available to come out and enjoy the great outdoors.
