From the Executive Director
|
This newsletter is longer than usual, but it is because there is so much happening in the month of May. I have been instructed to keep this short, and there is way too much going on to even give a short blurb about each event, grand opening, webinar, workshop and mixer that will occur. I don't even have time to whine about the "scenic route" I had to take in order to drive to San Francisco this past weekend. But please scroll through the newsletter because there are a lot of important events and opportunities coming up, plus there is a second picture of me that is super exciting.

Housing Program Input Needed
|
-
You're invited to join a Senior and Student Home Sharing Discussion
AREA 1 AGENCY ON AGING (
A1AA) will be sponsoring discussion groups in April and May to help determine the viability and next steps for a local Homeshare program.
Senior homeowners, students and seniors looking for housing are invited to discuss what homeowners and seekers would look for and what concerns need to be addressed to make
Homeshare an attractive housing option.
Homeshare can provide an elder homeowner help with household tasks, companionship, friendship, security and an additional source of income. For the student it offers low cost and secure accommodation, companionship, and the opportunity to learn from the life experiences of an elder.
Homeshare helps senior renters find affordable housing and the companionship and friendship offered when they offer help in return.
The groups will be held in McKinleyville, Fortuna, Eureka, and Arcata on the HSU campus. Allan Katz, a community organizer with more than 35 years of experience in the non-profit sector, will facilitate each group. AEDC, with the Headwaters Fund and US Bank have all contributed to the feasibility portion of this program.
