Your Community Brief from Oak Ridge High School

We will be releasing student progress reports on Monday, November 18th.
This is the perfect opportunity to speak with your student about their grades. If your student is struggling - we have many services available to assist them. There is time for any student to improve their grades before 2nd quarter report cards are finalized in December.
Next week is regular 5-day school week, but it is the last week before Thanksgiving break.
Thanksgiving break is a week-long and runs from Monday, November 25th through Friday, November 29th.

The Pioneer Express prior to Thanksgiving. During this Thanksgiving season I would like to take a moment to express how grateful I am to be associated with the students, teachers, staff, families, and community volunteers of Oak Ridge. ORHS is a wonderful school and we are blessed to have so many different opportunities available to our students. At this Thanksgiving I thank you for your continued support and involvement. There is no other school I would rather be at! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and if you're traveling over the holiday break, out on the busy roadways, please be careful and remember to buckle up.

Ms. Jenevieve Jackson's Digital Video Technology class took a trip to the Downtown Public Library to visit the Melrose Center. The tour included working with some of their top of the line production equipment, 3D printing equipment, and VR space.

Orchestra Fall Performance
Congratulations to our orchestra students for an outstanding performance during their fall presentation. They were joined by Memorial MS, Westridge MS, and Jones HS orchestras for the final number of the evening. Over 100 string students made a glorious sound!

Community Service
Orlando Dream Center & Oak Ridge High School
Oak Ridge High School partnered with The Orlando Dream Center to provide a Mobile Food Drop to the surrounding communities. Second Harvest Food Bank delivered 20,000 pounds (23 pallets) of fruit, vegetables, and dry goods to Oak Ridge High School Gymnasium for a FREE community-wide event on Saturday, November 9th from 10am to 1pm. Families were lined up by 7:30am with their shopping carts, boxes and bags as volunteers made sure each family received what they needed.

No Excuses Mentoring Program
We started our 2nd year of mentoring at Walker Middle School located in Orlando. Thank you again Principal Watson for this ongoing opportunity! Do not make excuses, just make it happen!

L.I.F.E. Mentoring Program
Congratulations to the young men that were inducted to the L.I.F.E. mentoring program. As we continue forward through the year, we ask that you continue to support them in their efforts to build character, foster resilience, succeed academically and withstand any trials that may arise socially and emotionally!
