Class Of 2017 Eagle Reception
The Capitol Area Council reception for 2017 Eagle Scouts will be on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Eagle Scouts, families, friends, and troop/team/crew/ship members are invited to attend. Each 2017 Eagle Scout will receive a letter in the mail by early February with detailed instructions.

Celebrate Scout Spirit At Report To State
Have you registered your Scout unit yet to join thousands of Scouts marching up Congress Avenue to the Capitol on February 3 for the annual Report to State (RTS) event?
The "Scouting Across Texas" event includes the parade and a Scout spirit rally and Eagle recommitment ceremony on the south steps of the Capitol. This year's report in House chambers will be received by Secretary of State Rolando Pablos. Afterwards, check out Austin's cool sites. New this year: every youth and adult in a Scout uniform gets into the Bob Bullock State History Museum that day for free!
Event registration is free. Official RTS patches are $8 per person.

Eagle Gathering At Capitol In February
Eagle Scout Alumni from across Texas are invited to an Eagle Scout Recommitment Ceremony and Gathering of Eagles on Saturday, February 3, at the Capitol. This Gathering of Eagle Scout Alumni coincides with the annual
Report to State.
- The Eagle Scout Recommitment Ceremony will be on the south steps of the Texas Capitol at 9:40am, followed by the Gathering of Eagles in the Capitol Building Agricultural Museum, Room 1W.14, on the first floor, west wing, below the House Chambers at 10:20am.
- Eagle Scout Alumni of all ages are invited to attend the Recommitment Ceremony and Eagle Gathering. This annual event is the only opportunity for all Eagle Scout Alumni in Texas to join for networking, reconnect with Scouting and recommit to the lifelong values of the Scout Oath and Law. Scout uniform is NOT required attire. Eagle alumni are encouraged to wear their Eagle award.
The Eagle Recommitment Ceremony and Gathering of Eagles is free; however, registration is requested (

2018 University Of Scouting
Registration is now open for the best supplemental Scouting training at all levels, the
University of Scouting. It takes place on Saturday, January 27, at the ACC Eastview campus. The event offers more than 100 classes on different Scouting topics, led by the most creative and experienced Scouters from all over our council. Also this year, Scout Executive Jon Yates will lead two "fireside chat" discussions on current events in Scouting, including the new BSA policies regarding girl membership.

Interested In Climbing Or C.O.P.E.?
Our council's Climbing and C.O.P.E. committee will host an open house for adult leaders at DOK's Tower at Lost Pines on Friday, January 19, from 5pm to 9pm. Bring a friend and join us for any or all of the evening. Committee members will discuss the climbing and C.O.P.E. training programs and how these can enable your unit to use the tower, C.O.P.E. course, or the natural areas gear at places like Enchanted Rock and Reimer's Ranch. Climb and rappel routes will be set up as well, and Instructors and Directors will be on hand to show you the setups and answer questions. Come on out, it's hands on and a lot of fun! Spring Hornaday Registration Opens In February
Interested in the natural world and conservation? Join your fellow Scouts at the Spring Hornaday Award Weekend, April 20-22 at Lost Pines, to start your journey to earning Scouting's highest conservation award. Classes are all taught by professionals in each field. Project advisors will be on hand to help you start planning your Hornaday Project. We are also partnering with our council's STEM/NOVA committee to offer more class options during the weekend. Event is for Boy Scouts but any youth may join us for the our "Take Care of Texas" Conservation Project on Sunday morning 9am at Lost Pines (please contact Jessica Snider if you are interested in attending just the conservation project). Registration opens February 1.

You can now sign up to take part in the 24th World Scout Jamboree, happening July 22-August 2, 2019, at the Summit Bechtel High Adventure Base in West Virginia.

2018 Philmont Provisional Crew Openings
We have openings on a potential 2018 Provisional Crew to Philmont Scout Ranch. Our council's High Adventure Committee is looking for youth and adults from units that do not have enough participants for a full 12 person Crew. They will train and coordinate with crewmembers from other units to form a full 12 person crew. The price for the contingent is $1330 per person, which includes travel, Philmont fee, food, travel bags, and patches. The travel dates are
June 24, 2018, to July 7, 2018.

A Gift That Keeps Giving To Local Scouting
Over the past four years, earnings from our council's endowment has helped provide an average of $200,000 a year for capital improvements to our camps and other Scouting facilities. Making a James E.
