MAPS and Stratis Health Launch New Strategic Partnership to Advance Safe Care Everywhere

The Minnesota Alliance for Patient Safety (MAPS) and Stratis Health have launched a new strategic partnership to drive their common vision to advance safe care everywhere. The new partnership will strengthen each organization's capacity to advance safety across the care continuum, with special emphasis on elevating the voice of the patients for safety in all settings of care.

Their boards have ratified MAPS as a subsidiary of Stratis Health, effective August 1, 2017. MAPS will remain a nonprofit membership organization that promotes safety by encouraging collaboration between Minnesota health care leaders, organizations, and patients. Stratis Health is an independent nonprofit organization that leads collaboration and innovation in health care quality and safety, and serves as a trusted expert in facilitating improvement for people and communities. As one of MAPS' five founding partners, Stratis Health has acted in a leadership capacity since the inception of the safety coalition. Stratis Health's long history of leading improvement efforts for providers across the healthcare continuum, the state, and the nation, will propel MAPS' ability to connect more broadly.

"This new partnership builds on our commitment to MAPS and patient safety. We look forward to addressing safety more deeply and broadly through daily interaction with like-minded patient safety practitioners who advance the patient safety practice field," said Jennifer Lundblad, PhD, MBA, president and CEO, Stratis Health.

MAPS has nearly 100 members and has been expanding its efforts to tackle emerging topics in patient safety, such as patient and family engagement, diagnostic error, and transitions of care. Stratis Health also has been working on these topics. Together, the two organizations will align strategies to achieve one of the National Quality Strategy top priorities of "making care safer by reducing harm caused in the delivery of care," as outlined by the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

"Joining with Stratis Health expands MAPS' ability to continue to grow across the continuum of care and have the capacity to respond to new safety and patient engagement opportunities," said Gayle Kvenvold, president and CEO of LeadingAge Minnesota, and the chair of the MAPS' board of directors. "MAPS members should see the value of membership increase, as we tap into Stratis Health's nonprofit management expertise and increase operational efficiency." MAPS members are part of an engaged community that is collaborating and innovating in patient safety work, so that Minnesota can remain a leader in this field.
