Library News & Events - For Adults
                   November 2019

If you have an interest in writing or history, this is your month to indulge at the library!

For those of you either participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), or just needing some structured writing time, check out Savage Library's "Write Now!" program on Sundays in November. If your interest is fanfiction, we have you covered too!  A Harry Potter-themed fanfiction workshop will help you turn your ships into written words on November 7th, also at the Savage Library.

Historically speaking, you can learn about the history of holiday arts and crafts in Russia, from Carol Rudie of the Russian Museum of Art at the Shakopee Library. Local author Mary Dupont will be at Prior Lake to discuss her grandmother (and former ambassador) Eugenie Anderson's life and work, and former "Voice of the Gophers" baseball and basketball announcer Dick Jonckowski will visit the Shakopee Library to share his experiences.

So live it up all of you writers and history buffs!

In the darkness of the northern winters, holidays took on special meaning. From the celebration of Christmas through the festivities of New Year, the development of these depended much on the cultural and political context. Trace this history in a reprisal of art and crafts that has made the Russian holiday experience distinct.

Prior Lake Library

In Mrs. Ambassador, Eugenie Anderson's granddaughter Mary Dupont explores a political life led with certainty about what Anderson stood for as a representative of the United States, and a personal life led with just as much assurance. The result: an enticing narrative about a mid-twentieth-century politician who championed democratic ideals at home and around the world.
