Hats off to our Graduates

Congratulations Class of 2017! This May thirty graduates have earned the following degrees: Master of Arts (18), Master of Theological Studies (3), Master of Divinity (4), and Master of Theology (5). We celebrated with SOT/Sem traditions: Alumni toast at the Bad Habit Brewing Company, Evening Prayer in Abbey Church, End-of-Term Banquet in the Great Hall, and SJU Commencement. Congrats Grads!

Emmaus Spotlight

The SOT/Sem has received a $15,000 grant from Calvin Institute of Christian Worship. We join 32 other recipients in worship renewal projects supported by Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. Saint John's seeks to enliven congregational participation in the school's chapel worship by drawing on ecumenical and multicultural resources, in relationship to the school's historic strength in chant and organ-based traditional repertoire.

Faculty Publication

Kathleen Cahalan, Ph.D., breaks open vocation as "calling" in her newest publication, The Stories We Live. By identifying eight prepositions, she reframes the "give and take" relationship of vocation.  Enjoy Dr. Cahalan's book, blog post and a special video  from Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company.

Alumni Highlight

Kate Ritger, CSB B.A. '03 , SOT M.Div. '07, seeks the divine presence everywhere, including in the dirt and weeds! Ritger has been managing the Common Ground Garden at Saint Benedict's Monastery since 2010, infusing Benedictine practices into what she calls "farming ministry." Her work reaches over 85 households of the St. Joseph community through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), farmers' markets, food shelves, and more.

NEW All-Class Reunion

The upcoming SOT/Sem Reunion, June 23-25, includes new features and events for SOT/Sem Alumni, with the same spirit. The date in June coincides with the CSB/SJU reunions, convenient for Johnnies and Bennies.  New events include a Recent Alumni Networking Happy Hour (for graduates since 1997), Keynote Presentation by Sebastian Gomes, SJU B.A. '07, SOT M.A.'11, Alumni Awards Banquet honoring Sister Marianne Supan, SOT M.A. '97, Convivium Prayer and Brunch, Faculty Alum Presenters, and much more.

32nd Annual Monastic Institute

The 32nd annual Monastic Institute will take place July 2-6 in Collegeville, focusing on " The Making of Laudato Si: A Monastic Response to Caring for Our Common Home." In the world we live in today, we know that caring for creation is of utmost importance, as the Pope lays out for us in this lengthy encyclical. How and why was this document written? How does the decline of the environment affect the poor? We will explore these questions, and many more.
Join us or forward to someone who would enjoy!
