5th Grade parents needed for Math Olympiad!

Volunteers needed for the 5th Grade Math Olympiad team

This is a great opportunity to expose your child to advanced math concepts - in a different way than they have before - it is a competition!

We need 1 parent to be the Coach and lead the practices and another 1-2 parents to also attend practices and who can help with admin work like putting together and correcting the homework packets. 

This program runs January - April.  The team practices have typically been in the mornings, 7:50-8:50am, twice a week - but are flexible & depend on the Coach's availability.  The competition is on Saturday, April 25, 2020.

Congratulations to our Reflections Artists

The Reflections Program is a National PTA and WSPTA cultural arts competition.

There were 113 participants from Puesta del Sol that participated in the Reflections Art Program this year. Their artwork has been displayed in the Library for students and staff to view. 

24 students were selected to advance to the district level for Reflections and will have a chance to advance to State and National levels. The artwork is judged based on 3 criteria: Interpretation, Creativity and Technique. Interpretation of the theme is granted the most emphasis in  judging which is unique to the Reflections program.

Academic Challenge 2019-20 Begins!

Participate in this year's  Academic Challenge! 

Academic Challenge is a free enrichment program available to all students in Kindergarten - 5th grade. This is an optional, non-competitive program. Students choose and complete up to seven (7) challenges throughout the school year. These challenges are to be completed outside of school. Look for the Academic Challenge flyer to come home!

We are looking for 3-4 individuals who are PTA members to devote a few hours of time in January through April. 

The Nominating Committee is tasked with finding our Board for the 2020-2021 school-year.  Tasks include emails, phone calls and networking within the Puesta del Sol community.  Prerequisites would include a passion or interest in helping our PTA grow stronger year after year by selecting the right individuals to fill important roles. Staff Spotlight
Sr. Will Nielsen

The PTA would like to welcome Sr. Nielsen who joined the 5th Grade team this year, his first year at Puesta del Sol. This is his 8th year teaching.

Sr. Nielsen is originally from Oklahoma, learned to speak Spanish in Costa Rica, and then studied in Spain. Later he worked and lived in Mexico for 4 years. 

It is great that he and his wife moved here to the Pacific Northwest in 2019, as he enjoys the outdoors.   When he is not teaching, Sr. Nielsen bikes, hikes and skies. He also plays hockey. 

We are glad to have you, Sr. Nielsen!
