Industry Recognition Events
February 27-28, 2018

Master Builders of Iowa recognizes our members' accomplishments through award programs that highlight excellence in industry initiatives and that represent tenets of our Association: Skill - Integrity - Responsibility. Each year, the MBI awards are sought after by the best in Iowa's commercial construction industry. The awards and recognition programs celebrate the success of MBI member companies and spotlight individual and company-wide accomplishments.

These award events have become popular Annual Winter Conference activities, attracting hundreds of attendees to each presentation. We invite and encourage those in the construction industry to attend this year's award presentations at the Annual Winter Conference - February 27-28. The awards events tend to sell out, so register early!

Presentation:
Understanding Generational Differences and Leading a Multi-Generational Workforce

Today construction companies are composed of workers from four different generations. The interplay between these generations is having a significant impact on workplace dynamics and the culture of our organizations. These differences combined with our workforce shortages are testing our skills as leaders and managers. This program will discuss the four generations that make up our workforce. Participants will learn about what each generation values in the workplace and will engage in dialogue about how to work with, manage, and lead this complex workforce.

In December, the MBI Board of Directors approved their 2018 legislative agenda that included recommendations from the MBI Government Affairs Committee.  Throughout the summer and fall, our public affairs team has been working to identify priorities that we would focus on to improve the commercial construction industry.

There is always something interesting going on at the Iowa Statehouse during the legislative session and in an effort to enhance MBI's advocacy efforts and keep members informed, our public affairs team will host a series of webinars during the 2018 legislative session.  >>>Read More

I was sitting in the main office at Oskaloosa High School in early October, having flashbacks to my own high school days and waiting for an industrial technology instructor to come meet me so I could explain to his students why the commercial construction industry was the right path for them. Sitting a few chairs away was a student, maybe 16 years old, wearing a Yankees ball cap. >>>Read More

Unfortunately,  the idea that drivers can multi-task on the road-calling customers, checking in with the home office, or catching up on voicemails- has led to the belief that hands-free devices and apps are a safe alternative to using a regular cell phone,  but that is far from the truth. In fact, several studies recognized by the National Safety Council (NSC) show that hands-free devices are no safer than handheld phones, as the brain remains focused on a cell phone conversation over the main task of driving. >>>Read More
