United Against Hate Week of Action
November 17-23
United Against Hate is a movement that emerged in 2017 in response to increasing numbers of hate crimes in the Bay Area. In an effort to visibly reject these acts, the City of Berkeley created the iconic “United Against Hate” posters to send the clear message that hate would not be tolerated. The message resonated with other communities, and the poster and movement spread quickly throughout the Bay Area and beyond. In 2018, leaders in Berkeley rallied community members, local organizations, elected leaders, and faith groups throughout the Bay Area to launch the inaugural United Against Hate Week of Action.

This year, Pacifica is joining the movement. The United Against Hate Week of Action will occur November 17-23, 2019. If you are interested in taking a stand against hate, check out the 20 Ideas for Action found on the United Against Hate website, which gives a number of ideas for how to show your support and rally others to the cause.

Come by City Hall and pick up your own United Against Hate poster to keep and share. Each of us can make a difference!

Book Signing by Nick Neely,
Author of Alta California
Sun, Nov 3rd 1-3pm | Pacifica Coastside Museum, 1850 Francisco Blvd
In Alta California, Nick Neely chronicles his 650-mile trek from San Diego to Pacifica, following the route of the 1769 Spanish Expedition led by Gaspar de Portolá. Neely grew up in California, but realized how little he knew about its history. For twelve weeks he hiked through both rural and urban California following the route described in the diaries of members of the Expedition. Weaving natural and human history, Alta California relives his adventure and explores the evolution of California and its landscape. You can find more information about the event at the Pacifica Historical Society’s website.
