Do you self-sabotage & what does it mean anyway?
Dear HYE Yogis,

Do you hurt or help yourself with your actions, behaviors, words or decisions OR maybe you know someone who does?

" Behavior is said to be  self - sabotaging  when it creates problems in daily life and interferes with long-standing goals. Among the most common  self - sabotaging  behaviors are procrastination,  self -medication with drugs or alcohol, comfort eating, and forms of  self -injury such as cutting." Psychology Today

Often this behavior can be happening and you do not even realize you are self-destructing. Maybe it is due to lack of faith in yourself and your capabilities, maybe you feel you are not deserving, maybe you have an insatiable craving, or maybe you are masking what is really wrong. The first step to altering self-destructive behavior is to notice and recognize it. Becoming aware of behavior that might not be serving you in your present day life is where change can begin. With awareness, you will be able to uncover and reveal the source of what is causing your self-sabotaging behavior. Root causes might stem from unresolved pain from a traumatic experience, addiction of many sorts, lack of mindfulness, low self-esteem or simply lack of love for yourself.

Maybe a change in priorities, schedule or even environment will help? Maybe a yoga class or meditation can bring self-awareness and calm? Maybe professional assistance is needed? Maybe a change in attitude, diet, drink and rest is demanded? Maybe the end of a co-dependent relationship is required? Maybe learning to love yourself? A few of these prospects might need to be embraced to offer positive change to a self-sabotaging lifestyle. You are free in your world to notice self-sabotaging behavior and begin change....you are worth it!

Living in America offers you the freedom to change, seek help, exercise and do good for yourself. Take a moment to pause this November and give gratitude for this freedom you have to live your best life. If you are already living your best life, stay mindful to continue strong and share with others life's goodness. If you are not living your best life, what can you do and what changes can you make? HYE teachers and myself are here to support you in your yoga & wellness journey. Be grateful that you can live the American dream full of freedom to feel your best self!
