NATIONAL HOSPICE MONTH
     A New Hospice Story
There comes a time {Family Story | Vineyard}
There comes a time {Family Story | Vineyard}
Judith's husband, Scott, passed away in Hospice of Southern Illinois' program. Their family had positive experiences with hospice care in the past, however, they just didn't think they were ready for hospice services for Scott. Scott's physician recommended comfort care. Scott decided to be proactive by seeking additional support for himself and his wife, Judith. By selecting hospice services earlier, Scott was able to live his final months, weeks and days the way he wanted to, pain free and independent, achieving a better quality of life for himself.

    An Honor Flight

    October 16, 2018 - Hospice of Southern Illinois' Community Education Manager, Deborah Hogg, served on the Welcome Home Committee for Veterans Honor Flight Volunteer Group. Over 250 volunteers were involved to make the Veterans' Homecoming memorable. More than 3,600 people welcomed these Heroes Home. There were 8 WWII, 30 Korean, 18 Vietnam, and 14 other Veterans on the Honor Flight Washington D.C., out of Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois.
    Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans -
    World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill.

    Virtual Flight of Honor
    At times, Veterans' health or personal preference is to not travel to the memorials and make the trip. Hospice of Southern Illinois is committed to honoring veterans and helping them find peace and honor in their service. We can help honor them through a program we designed called "The Virtual Flight of Honor. " We host an honor ceremony, giving the Veterans a virtual tour experience, provide history about memorial monuments, and finish with a warm "welcome home" that they deserve. These events are open to the public. Help us create a warm "welcome home" at our next event to honor our nations' veterans.
    • November 8 - Freeburg Care Center, 746 Urbanna Dr, Freeburg, IL. at 10:00 a.m.
    • November 28 - Moose Lodge 1221, 2425 N Illinois St, Swansea, IL. at 10:00 a.m.
    • December 12 - Brightly Senior Living, 649 Legacy Place, Mascoutah, IL. at 9:00 a.m.
