THE HART OHANA RECOGNIZED FOR ITS "SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY"

The HART Ohana is proud to have been selected as a recipient of the Aloha United Way's "Spirit of Community Award" for 2018. HART's employees, contractors, and consultants joined forces in a recent workplace fund-raising campaign to help AUW in its mission to "create  hope and change the landscape of our community for the better."

The Spirit of Community Award recognizes individuals and companies whose extraordinary level of commitment helped raise millions of dollars this year to support local charities, impacting hundreds of thousands of lives.   More than raising and distributing money however, AUW is also working to reduce homelessness, provide more opportunities for our kupuna to age gracefully, and better prepare our keiki for life.

The AUW is recognizing the efforts of HART as a "public sector" organization.  The award will be presented in May at the AUW's Annual Recognition Luncheon  at the Sheraton Waikiki.

HART JOINS THE HAWAII
LEGO USERS GROUP AT ITS
"EASTER BRICK PARTY"

The Hawaii LEGO Users Group (HILUG) hosted its "Easter Brick Party" last weekend at SALT at Our Kaka'ako, and the HART Team was happy to be on hand.  The family fun event was a big hit and HART's LEGO train was one of the center's of attraction.

The train is the handiwork of HART's Assistant Deputy Director of Planning, Dr. Ryan Tam.  HART's Sustainability Planner Ben Trevino is a member of HILUG and helped coordinate HART's participation in the event, along with Outreach Specialist Kashmira Reid.  They were on-hand to answer questions and share information about the Project.

The Brick Party featured a community building table, several club presentations, and the "Kryptonite Walk"; a long, LEGO filled pit that challenged people to perform a bare-foot crossing.

HILUG is a group of LEGO builders, collectors, and fans dedicating to spreading the joy of plastic brick building in Hawaii. The club is open to members "from 1st grade through senior citizens". For membership information, email HILUG at [email protected].

THE HAWAII ESTATE PLANNING COUNCIL INVITES HART
TO ITS MARCH MEETING

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation was the featured guest at a recent lunch meeting of the Hawaii Estate Planning Council at the Plaza Club. HART's Director of Communications Bill Brennan addressed the group of about 50, sharing construction updates on the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.

Brennan also talked about the benefits of rail and spent several minutes taking questions ranging from HART's safety initiatives to the proposed use of public-private partnerships in delivering the remainder of the Rail Transit Project.

The Hawaii Estate Planning Council is a professional association that seeks to enhance professional growth and development for its members, promotes high professional standards and ethical practices through ongoing educational opportunities while facilitating a team approach to estate planning.

BE ALERT!
TRAIN TESTING CONTINUES ON THE GUIDEWAY ABOVE WAIPAHU

HART and Ansaldo Honolulu Joint Venture are currently continuing their train testing work on the rail guideway above Farrington Highway in Waipahu.  Without a doubt, it's quite a sight to see one of the Project's trains as it speeds along the track!    Often, drivers and pedestrians are distracted as they try to catch a glimpse of the trains as they roll by.

As testing continues, please be aware that a portion of the test track is situated between two active station construction zones, the Hō'ae'ae (West Loch) and Pouhala (Waipahu Transit Center) Stations.

HART reminds you to be especially aware of your surroundings as you move through these areas.  For pedestrians, be sure to stand clear of traffic and work areas while observing the trains.  For drivers, be aware that people may be standing near roadsides distracted by the train passing overhead.  Also, be extra cautious as you drive through construction zones and be on the lookout for flaggers, workers, construction equipment, as well as pedestrians.  If you're driving and want to grab a look at the train, find a safe place pull to the side of the road and be clear of traffic, equipment, and pedestrians before you snap a photo of one of our sleek trains passing by.

As the Honolulu Rail Transit Project moves closer to completion, the excitement and interest are understandably ramping up as well.  But remember, stay focused on the road, be aware of your surroundings, and always obey the construction zone speed limit of 25 miles per hour!

HART thanks you for your patience and understanding as crews work to complete the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.
