Village Elections And Festival
Current two-year terms of office for two Harper's Choice Village Board seats and the Columbia Council Representative seat expire on April 30, 2018. Two Board of Director nomination petitions were received from Jim Smith and Rebecca Beall and one Columbia Council Representative petition was received from Alan Klein. Per the Harper's Choice Community Association bylaws, if the number of nominations is less than or equal to the number of vacant director positions, the qualified nominees shall be deemed to be elected by the members and the Board of Directors will appoint the nominees to the director positions. The terms of office for the three nominees will be May 1, 2018 through April 30, 2020.
However, the Festival is still happening! The Festival, organized by Neighbors for a Vibrant Harper's Choice (NVHC), an HCCA committee and residents' group, will take place on Saturday, April 28 from 12 - 3 pm. The Festival is a free event open to all and fun for all ages, and will include:
· Live music featuring WhatsherFace and the Stuff, a six-piece band performing hits from the 50s through today, along with other musical guests.
· Book swap-bring books to trade with your neighbors
· Face painting
· Caricaturist
· One-day coupon deals from Village Center stores
· Information on local organizations and opportunities
· Arts and crafts vendors
· Food, games, and more...
A Festival Week Food Drive will begin collecting nonperishables at Safeway April 21. The food pantry, serving low-income Harper's Choice residents, will be represented at the Festival, providing a chance to learn more about their services.
Table space for nonprofit organizations and community groups serving Harper's Choice is available.

Street sweeping in your area thru Friday, March 23
Street sweepers are expected to service the following areas thru Friday, March 23,
weather permitting.
Sweeping operations take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Sweeping staff does take measures to avoid sweeping a street on its designated trash and recycling collection days.

Patuxent Branch Trail

Join Harper's Choice Community Association for a breathtaking hike while experiencing some of Columbia's history.
We'll trek 4.6 miles on the Patuxent Branch Trail that leads you along the Patuxent River from Savage Park to Lake Elkhorn. Along the way are interpretive signs and the historic Guilford Pratt Truss Bridge that spans the Little Patuxent River along Old Guilford Road. The mostly paved pathway provides you with the perfect hiking or biking trail. Runners will also enjoy the variety of terrain that offers challenges for all ability levels. Wildlife is abundant, so bird watching is also a favorite pastime for users of this trail. Make sure to pack your lunch; midway through our hike we'll stop and have a leisurely meal before wrapping up the rest of the trail.

Columbia Archives
The Columbia Archives is excited to announce a program in honor of Women's History Month entitled, Archiving the A.R.T.S - Celebrating the Legacy of the Women of Columbia. This program will honor the achievements of women of Columbia who have diligently worked in the fields of art, religion, theater and sports. It will feature archival materials maintained within Columbia Archives (through displays and presentations) that highlight the influence their work has had on Columbia.
In addition to the displaying of donated archival materials, the following confirmed honorees - Doris Ligon (Arts), Carolyn Kelemen (Arts/Theater), Barbara Mall (Religion/Theater), Carolyn Arena (Religion), Priscilla Hart (Religion) and Joan Lovelace (Sports) - will participate in a roundtable conversation focusing on how they have served Columbia and how Columbia has been a supportive environment for solidifying their visions.
The program will be held on Thursday, March 29 at 6pm at Slayton House, 10400 Cross Fox Lane in the Wilde Lake Village Center. Due to limited seating availability, please register at Eventbrite.

The 'Plan Finder' can also be used to compare Medicare health plans (such as HMOs, PPOs or Cost Plans) and while explaining the tool for that purpose is out of the scope of this presentation, you will learn many basics that are used for both types of comparisons.

Columbia Cleanup Day Scheduled for Saturday, March 24 in All 10 Villages
Columbia can be even more beautiful, and the environment can be more healthy, after just three hours on Columbia Cleanup Day.
Columbia Cleanup Day will take place on Saturday, March 24 with volunteers picking up trash that has accumulated at open space locations in Harper's Choice from 9am - noon.
This is the ninth year that Columbia Cleanup Day has been held since 2009. People who would like to participate can show up at the meeting locations. The meeting locations and clean-up areas are:
- Harper's Choice: Meet at Swansfield Neighborhood Center (5659 Cedar Lane). Clean the open space area behind Green Dory Lane, Woodenhawk Circle and Berrypick Lane.

Citizen Jane: Battle for the City Documentary Screening

The Baltimore Metropolitan Council and Columbia Association invite you to a screening of "Citizen Jane: Battle for the City," the story of a particularly prescient woman who started a revolution in urban planning.

During the Tuesday, April 3, 2018, HCCA Board of Directors meeting beginning at 7:00 pm at Kahler Hall, a representative(s) from Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman's office will be present to answer and address any questions or concerns that the Board and community may have. As always, the Board meetings are open and we encourage residents to attend and participate in the meetings and this meeting is no exception. Regardless of your availability to attend, if you have any questions or concerns that you wish to convey to Executive Kittleman's staff, please email them to Village Manager Steve Ingley at

Architectural Committee Meetings
Changes made to the exterior of homes in Harper's Choice require approval of the Village Architectural Committee (AC).
The AC will meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 PM to review applications.
The deadline to submit applications for approval is two weeks prior to the next meeting date.
