St. Josaphat is going to be showcased in this year's Open House Chicago! (Yes, the scaffolding will still be up, but that will make the interior beauty seem even more incredible!)
Not familiar with this event? The Chicago Architecture Center's Open House Chicago (OHC) is the city's annual architecture festival. For one weekend in October you can explore Chicago's most iconic and unique architectural treasures. Check out their
website
for more information.
It is no surprise that we have been included in this esteemed list of architectural gems of Chicago. After all, Fr. Lange, pastor in 1902 when the church was built, was quoted in the
Chicago Tribune
saying ours was "the only real fireproof church in Chicago" because of the steel framework combined with non-combustible building materials. (You may know Fr. Lange from his image in the stained glass at the entrance from the foyer to the church.)
Thanks also to the steel skeleton, St. Josaphat parishioners have a view to the altar unobstructed by columns.

We will have the church open to visitors on Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14 from 9am - 5pm. We are looking for friendly volunteers to welcome visitors to our church those days. You will also get a free t-shirt!
Please
sign up
for a shift; it's easy, all you have to do is smile and say hello! We will have materials prepared for you to hand out if people are interested, and also a self-guided tour booklet (check it out yourself; there are currently copies at the back of church) for people to use while they're visiting. We will provide more information as the weekend draws nearer.
Thanks for making St. Josaphat "a church to come home to!"
