Update From Chicago
The toddlers at Child’s Voice Chicago have been learning about the farm. Our students love playing with their favorite farm animals and putting them inside the barn.
We also practiced a Listening and Spoken Language strategy while playing. It is called auditory closure and it is when you start a familiar sentence or song and then wait for your child to finish it.
Tatum Fritz, one of our speech therapists, practiced this with the song “Old MacDonald Had a Farm.” She would sing, “Old MacDonald Had a …” and then our toddlers would say “…Farm!”
Families, try this at home with your toddler or preschool-aged child. You could sing, “And on that farm he had a ….” and let your child finish with “… Pig!!!” Then sing, “With an …” and let your child answer, “Oink, oink here!”
If you have any trouble practicing, our Chicago toddlers can help you out!
